The art got thrifted. Either the artist didn't want it anymore, or the family of the artist didn't care about their art enough to keep it. So either we can let this art become literal garbage, or we can do something with it. Do those commenters want to fill their house with random thrifted art? Or do they just want it to be "preseved" in inevitable landfill?

No, out of dignity of the original artist and the buyer “them” should not just grab someone else’s creation and clam it as your own work, it’s called “bastardize art” and it’s illegal, if the original artist sees this video they can legally sue for vandalism of original artwork and damages, if they want there artwork for personal tampering then they can paint it themselves as a copy, or do a photo-scan
@_foxpuppet5 ай бұрын
@thimug1150 These are DEEPLY mediocre Bob Ross copies that were legally sold. As soon as an original artwork is sold, it becomes the legal property of the buyer who can subsequently do whatever they want with it. Even if these random afternoon time waster projects were worth the kind of reverence you're demanding, there is no legal or moral obligation for it
@thatweirdartkid99905 ай бұрын
As someone who used to work at Goodwill I encourage everyone to do this! The way it works is that if something doesn't sell in a specific amount of time, it gets thrown out. This keeps these art pieces out of a landfill and gives them new life! We have one person who continuously donated his paintings. No one ever seemed to buy them, and it was really sad to see it wasted

although I could understand where the dislike for painting on thrifted art comes from, i think some of the critics also don't understand that stuff that ends up in the thrift store were put there because they were originally unwanted by someone, and now the products have found a new home by someone who does desire it, whatever that purpose for desire may be is up to the individual user. The moment you have purchased the art from the thrift store, that painting is yours now, and you could do what you like with it. The same way as I could buy a bunch of t-shirts, cut them up, and create a quilt out of it. In the end, repurposing thrift store goodies is a wonderful outcome in my eyes, and much nicer than it ending up gathering dust in the store, and ending up in a landfill along with all the other unsold paintings. all this to say, I love your art and keep up the good work. Seeing these thrift store paintings are sweet, and a kind way to utilize thrift store purchase in my eyes. :)

This is such a cool idea that I want to try. These painting (collabs) came out great! Makes me want to try acrylic again. Cute characters. Some notes: FYI, in here and the last video, when an artist writes their name in the bottom left of the painting, it signifies its a copy/study of an existing work. This is tradition in Fine Arts schools. (So don't worry about "messing up" a one of a kind!) If the acrylic paint is still wet, you can wet and wipe up some of the paint, like in the painting with the large ghost. Even if the paint is damp, you can still peel/scrub it off with a brush. It has been useful to me, especially if I want to make the paint film more transparent.

It's upcycling. Taking something that could've just as easily went into the trash and giving it new life. The artist obviously didn't want it themselves, or someone that had it didn't want it, and donated it for someone else to use. It was "garbage" to those people. So... I mean... I think this is a great thing for people to do. Honestly, I have personal friends who have been doing this (myself included, though I've yet to paint on them), where they're buying old art from the thrift store and painting things on it themselves. Some of the things they're doing are legit MASTERPIECES imo. It's keeping that stuff from getting thrown into the landfill. I see no harm in it at all.
