In this video I am showing you all the whole process of kashering our kitchen for Passover. From cleaning and prepping to kashering dishes and countertops, even what I do to drawers and countertops, this video has it all! SO if you have ever wondered what it takes to make a kitchen kosher for passover or year round, this video is for you! This is all done from our Sephardi traditions, if you are looking for Ashkenazi traditions of kashering a kitchen, most of this is the same, but there are a few differences. Contacting your local orthodox rabbi is
always recommended in matters of halakha.
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

I feel like this video doesn’t convey how exhausting this whole process can be 😂 The job is done now though and that’s so satisfying. Excited for family to arrive later today! Heads up: I won’t be posting a video Monday because of the Passover Holiday, but plan to post Thursday during Chol Hamoed! Have a great weekend everyone! Happy Passover / Chag Sameach to those who are celebrating!

The biggest tragedy is to deny Jesus Christ. The tragedy of not understanding Him, God, the God head, God, the Son, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I’m afraid you nor your sister understand where you come from, what Christianity means and where you are going. The Jews at this point are very incomplete people.
@crystal7217

@@biancahotca3244 I do not deny Jesus Christ. You are judging someone you do not know. I believe I can learn about another’s religion respectfully. I believe in loving my sister because she is my sister. I can learn and not convert myself. I can respect others beliefs even if I don’t share them. I can absolutely love people who are different than myself. I think it’s possible to hear people, value them and still maintain my own beliefs. Have a great day.

I found this video very interesting. I grew up in a Southern Baptist home. Before Easter and Christmas my mother always cleaned everything in the kitchen with boiling water. The counters, dishes, pots, silverware and refrigerator. It was a tradition passed down from many generations. I never thought to ask why and now my mother and grandmother have passed on. I do not use boiling water but do a very thorough cleaning before the holidays. Thank you for sharing.

As far as using the wet vac, I think this is sheer genius. Kashering the countertops makes the mother of all messes and I also liked how you incorporated the electric tea kettle. It saves a lot of time preparing the kitchen for passover. I pack up the kitchen and close up the kitchen cupboards, wash down the counters and get rid of all chamets. After passover, before we use bring in chamets, I pack up the passover dishes and once they are stored until the next year, I just re-open my cupboards and we're all set. This brings back so many memories. We had two kitchens in our house growing up, it was a process. So many things to be stored and donated. We always started about a month out eating out our pantry/freezers so nothing would be left the week before passover. Even our emergency supplies got rotated. Our deep clean for Rosh Hashanah was also a serious under taking. My Grandmother would even pull us from school to get it done if we were hosting that year. Not a single thing in the house wasn't cleaned it felt like. I always got the walls and ceiling since I didn't mind climbing the ladder.

My husband is Jewish and I am Irish Catholic. But both our grandmothers liked each of us and they ran the family so our marriage was allowed. My husband's grandmother is the only family member to survive the camps. I love that both my catholic granny and my husband's Jewish granny were the same type of women. They got on so well until they both passed. But Grandma Bennett did like to keep kosher. And she came to live with us in London. Weirdly us Irish folks like to have two ovens and two sinks. We used to follow the same rules on bottom feeders and seafood too, using those only for bait for proper fish. I called Grandma Bennett GB and our son calls her GB too as do all the great grandkids. I'm sad that my son doesn't have the option of his Jewish heritage but hopefully things will change over time. But he has always felt part of the jewish community in London. We have a cottage which is off the grid in Ireland. Now I gone there a week earlier, as GB was coming to stay for the first time. And she's old now and I wanted to make sure everything was perfect. As she has treated me as well as a daughter. We sometimes would rent it out. That has now stopped. As we arrived late in the dark. Which is not good when the place only has solar panels for some electric light. You have to get the huge multi burner going, as it heats the water on the back boiler. Everywhere was mouse poop!!!!! So kashering the cottage happened from 2am to 6am as I was boiling and bleaching everything. Then foil goes on the shelves just in case I've not gotten them clean enough. giant pot and all the flatware/silverware being boiled, all the smaller pots plates, everything. Then everything went into airtight giant tupperware boxes I'd brought with kosher food supplies. GB arrived, and I was so proud of how my son helped clean and kaher everything as well. She loved Ireland. Also the cottage is on a very old pilgrimage route from the 300sAD. I have a big bucket of cold water with bottled water and normally my son would stand or sit next to them and sell them to pilgrims and those just hiking the trail. GB decided to do and was just chatting to everyone, several were brought up for tea and cake! GB has been to visit our new house in Northern Ireland. She went out for a walk and our next door neighbour met her. Now our next door neighbour is the same woman who lived there my whole life. Knew my granny. Granny was respected a a fair woman and a woman of conviction by the people around her. So within 3 minutes of telling our neighbour that she was jewish, now within about a minute or so she asked my husband if he was catholic or Protestant. He says well I'm Jewish. She goes OMG I can't believe your mother let you marry a Jew. Like Protestant would have been worse though. Jewish was easier for her to get her head round. But also both of the Grannies agreed to the marriage so any naysayers were told to shut up. So we had the wedding in gothic Roman Catholic Church with a blessing from the Rabbi and then sneaking in some Jewish stuff that my parents didn't notice. GB gave me Kallah, Dinner for Two, with a note saying, I will teach you how to cook proper sephardi for all the holidays. And I'm up for eating and drinking. She still cooks the Challa for Shabbat but she's shown me how now too. Can't get it anywhere near as good. She goes, ah give it 50 years, you'll be fine! She is much younger than my grandma, who would be 113 if still alive. GB is 93 now, was born 1930. She lives downstairs. We have a bedroom, living room and bathroom which she has to herself. And we all share a kitchen. She is living with us full time now, which is just lovely. And my extended family is large so if other family want to visit from England or Israel we can still host everyone. We did Passover in Northern Ireland this year. The family staying with my family don't eat at their houses, so from 8am until midnight everyone is in our house. But it was fantastic. And all the female cousins want to take over to help me. I'm always grateful. It's also meant that my in laws are all going to come visit again. GB was explaining passover to our neighbour. I just remember them laughing and cackling together at our wedding and just getting on so well. I hate fish but I love north African style food. But here we can hire a shochet who will go to the farm and slaughter and butcher a whole animal for us. Farmers don't mind as they get paid and this farmer does his own slaughtering and butchering on site. And as soon as you say, oh it's for my husband's granny. You know she survived the nazi death camps. They never say no! Sadly not many Jewish people where I come from but there is a Shul within 20 miles and the Rabbi there has come for dinner at our house a couple of times and we have been to his home for Shabbat, men going to prayer and us ladies cooking. It's old fashioned but also nice being with the women too. (I think they want me to convert, just like my mother secretly wants my husband to convert) They wanted men and women separate for the wedding reception, it was agreed for after the meal. And all of my family really enjoyed it, as the older ladies said this is kinda what used to happen at weddings when they were young, the men and women would naturally divide. And also just lots of kiddos too. As having all ages at a wedding is important from toddler to grandma. As children bring such joy to these occasions.

Thanks Chana!!!! Chag Sameach to you and your family!!! You know I haven’t understood why ashkenaz seem overwhelmed by the dishes portion of Pesach. My mother is Sephardi but my father is ashkenaz so we went with most things by that tradition, and every year as a little girl I SO looked forward to my mom pulling out the Pesach dishes and having one full week where we eat with things I felt only princesses used!!!! Ha ha! My mom had these ‘Royal looking’ (yet dishwasher safe!) white plates with flowers and a gorgeous flatware set they got for their wedding, and breakfast lunch and dinner all Pesach was with them. I thought it was because Pesach is special and I wanted to grow up to have a royal set for every holiday. 😊 B”H if I’ll have the room!! Pesach Sameach!

I adore that story! Thank you so much for sharing! I (personally) love having nice dishes for shabbat and the holidays. We don't have a special set for passover, but I am glad we don't have to use paper plates (Though I know a ton of people who love doing that). I think it does add to the holiday and makes it more special.
