I was posted in Kashmir for several decades fell in love with her and her people. Thus studied her genuine history in detail. You all are lucky that you Kashmiris have a solid history written by Kalhana, after which by Jonaraja, followed by Srivara, etc. Hence you Kashmiris are fortunate that you have access to solid ancient history and do not have to speculate things based on conjecture. While people in Kargil are Aryans, Bhauttas (Mongol) and also a mixture of both the Races, Kashmiris are pure Aryans only. Rinchin was a Bhautta (Mongol) Race and was converted to Semitic-Islam by Bul Bul Shah and was eventually liquidated by the Kashmiris. His grave is in Srinagar. Also Mirza Haidar Dughlat the cousin of Babur was liquidated by the Kashmiris.

How this old man is saying that Kargil is culturally connected to kashmir and not Leh, shame on his knowledge, being a senior citizen, Kargil is culturally connected to the Tibetan ethnic group which simply means we are more inclined towards Leh rather than kashmir. we didn't choose our ethinicity or race. we were just born in a random place or in a random group of people that Allah choose.But we choose to be muslim,to worship Allah alone and to follow islam. Thats why we rejects traditions and customs that are against islam even if it has been followed by our ancestors.So our first identity should be muslim and Islam should be the first priority among the things that are common between us.As someone from Kargil i might have many similarities with a buddist from leh ladakh or a kashmiri muslim might have many similarities with a pandith but all those are not by choice but by chance like language,culture, look etc, but both of us chose to be muslim and thats what matter and that should be the first priority when making any political boundary in future inshallah.

Last year I visited Ladakh and Kargil. While traveling from Leh to Kargil, the Budhist Driver was particular in pointing the sharp dividing line of inhabitants of two faiths on the road. Four more points. The hotel manager in Kargil, a Shia, whispered to me "we don't indulge in terrorism like Sunnis of Kashmir" during a private discussion. Unlike Leh, I found Kargil main town plus road side hotels too dirty. During return journey from Kargil to Leh next day, we stopped at an Army Post for tea. One Assamese Boy/Soldier manning the post (that had fought with Pakistani inflitrators during Kargil war) was cryptic in saying even though Army helps locals in various ways, sometimes providing rations, they treat Army as foreigners. In Turtuk Village (India captured it from Pakistan during 1971 war) at LOC, I purchased Apricot Oil from a lady, and asked her whether she was happy in India, the studded silence gave me the answer. Thank You Ladakh.
