The problem is that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto sold the Kashmiris in the Shimla Agreement of 1972, with a deal to get 90,000 prisoners of war released instead. As per the Shimla Agreement of 1972, the UN resolution of 1949 has no place and the Kashmir issue has to be resolved bilaterally while honouring the 26th Oct 1947 Instrument of Accession of Maharaja Hari Singh which was accepted by Lord Mountbatten the next day on 27th Oct 1947 --- and allowed Sheikh Abdullah to take over as Prime Minister of J&K on 30th October 1947. This means that the only option left is "whether POK including Northern Areas (Gilgit-Baltistan) should join Jammu & Kashmir or not" --- whether this requires a Referendum is upto Pakistan -- which in any case is administering the Northern Areas(Gilgit-Baltistan) as a Union Territory, and Azad Kashmir is only about 7% of the the total area of Kashmir as in 1947. It is time for the common Kashmiri muslims in the Valley to wake up and realise that their folly of supporting Pakistan is not possible, legally (Bhutto has already sold them, they better know!) or in any other way.

It's shocking to see NDTV has carried out interviews with separatists of Kashmir valley on their economic growth plans. These group hasn't any influence on all the areas , especially Jammu and Ladakh. Some disgruntled people have misplaced concepts and with the active support from Pakistan based terrorists organisations who get weapons and funds from Pakistan have created unrest for people in 3 to 4 districts of Kashmir valley. At least, till strong Govt., exist in Delhi no such thing / plan of separation from India is feasible. Jai Hind.

It is time that Kashmiris stand up economically through Tourism and Natural Resource Management in the state. They need leaders like Modi and not this fellow - Omar (He only talks about begging and belittling the Kashmiris) Kashmir has lot of potential and building up its infrastructure through strategic vision will bring a lot to the people. And people should be the ones deciding their own economic and academic future and not these petty politicians who beg. It has been proved now. Nearly 75% Kashmiris came out to vote. Interesting topic I never expected to be covered by media. Even if Kashmir separates from India, it does not have much economy. Also, Pakistan is hell bent on claiming Kashmir so once Kashmir is not a part of India, it will be much more easier for Pakistan to attack a small place like Kashmir valley. And there is no guarantee they would leave Jammu, their terrorists are already entering Jammu area. I don't believe for one moment that Pakistan wants Kashmir's freedom. Look at Gilgit-Baltistan, which was a part of J&K, they have taken it from India but they havent freed them. Pakistan is ruling it, even though they only claim that they want to "free" Kashmir. And between all these, Kashmir has no stability left. Most of its economy comes from tourism, which depends on Indians, and selling apples and nuts, even of which India is a major market. Once they separate, this economy will go away too. I wish even if Kashmir majority wants to separate, the UN will send forces in keeping Kashmir safe from Pakistan

Jasim Ahmad Brother, there is no end to this unless and until we expand our limited identity. There is no restriction that if you are kashmiri u cannot be indian and vice versa. So learn to accept and live. Kashmir and the whole subcontinent was a single entity in the past and people lived with each other despite differences. It's tragic that it got divided in the name of religion. So if anyone tries to divide it again there will be unprecedented bloodshed as it is happening in kashmir. Hence the better thing would be to coexist despite differences and learn to respect each other. See each other as human first and not as Kashmiri, Indian or Pakistani. The identities are created by humans. Not by god.

Jammu and Kashmir An area of around 100 sq km around Srinagar is not the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir Riyasat. Kathua, Jammu city, Udhampur, Reasi, Poonch, Sambha, Rajouri are totally with India. Doda and Kishewar never had any violence in recent times and considered to be very peaceful districts of Jammu. Pakistan outrightly rejected it. The main problem with India is that kashmir valley is 22% percent of Jammu and Kashmir with a population of 54.5% of the state plus Pakistan occupied Kashmir where no one speaks Kashmiri and majority are Punjabi orPahari speaking outsiders... So it is not feasible for India to conduct plebiscite . Thats a very straight forward answer. Talking of the valley, So I am also a Kashmiri , a Hindu Pandit from Anantnag and my suggestion always is that for a final settlement Kashmiris and Delhi have to sit for a solution with no Pakistan involvement
