Same. I first thought Qh4+, but then recognized the need to defend e5 with Nf3#. It took me about 30 seconds just to make sure. Lol

The solution of the puzzle is pretty counter-intuitive, the solution is Nf3#. The knight which is defended by the queen, covers e5 and g5. The rook which checks the king covers e4, f4 and g4. And the bishop covers e3 and g3

I'm a long time italian player and this system is best, i would always either castle kings side or trade light squared bishop and then lose or draw a drawish endgame, this way I'm winning more games by italian with almost 83% accuracy.

On move 6, would it be just as well to play A3, so that if the Knight attacks, the Bishop can move back to A2, maintaining the pressure on A7, rather than the less active C2?

Nf3 is the solution to the puzzle, and it didn't take 10 seconds. I just looked at which squares the king could still move to and asked where I could move the knight (delivering discovered check) to cut off those squares. To be fair, I am not sure I would have seen it if I wasn't made aware that a mate in 1 existed.

10:20 ne6 I played that openning tonight, even though I didn't know this ahead of time. I'm avoiding learning too much about opennings right now, as I want to find them out. Pawn on c3 makes sense to lock out their knight on that side.
