You did an amazing job! Because of you, kassadin is now my second favourite champion (in terms of his base appearance) after zed. This kassadin is much better than the old, i just wish they would make him a vgu update with minor gameplay changes and a big visual update, obviously using this appearance. Also i have a question: They give a sketch of this redesigned kassadin to work with? Or you just reimagined kassadin on your own to make the splash art?
@deivcalviz2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We splash artists do not design anything about the character. That is the job of the concept artist. We are just like movie poster makers to make the "actors" look good. However, there are times when the concept is too simple looking. We can usually upgrade the armor details to make it more cinematic and push the realism while keeping the same silhouette and colors.

Amazing splash art! Question, how do you get the rendering to be so clean? i've been trying to use just round brush, and i want to know if there are any tips for cleaner light and shadows instead of it looking muddy
@deivcalviz2 жыл бұрын
It's all about keeping the colors and values simple. Think how they color in anime. Even if there are just a base color and a shadow color it can still look right. It's the same logic but I just blend it in more and add in tiny details. If it works when viewed from a distance, it will work even if you put details. Try studying what I did during the early stages of coloring. It's all about that stage. Everything else is icing on the cake.

Question, now that you are the level you are with your art, do you know that you’re outstandingly amazing at art!? Like considering you’ve been hired by riot to create pieces for league of legends, are you proud of your art and where you are? From your eyes, do you look at your art and STILL see issues in it and things you can fix?? I’m asking because if I were automatically transferred to your level of expertise in art, from the level I’m at, I am not able to notice any mistakes, and I’d be so incredibly happy of the quality of my art I don’t think I’d ever stop drawing. I know getting to your level must’ve taken ages, even half of your level I’d be proud with, if that makes sense! You’re so incredibly good, sorry for the praise. It’s really inspiring AND amazing to me! Even just your rough sketches at the beginning show how much you’ve mastered art!

This splash art is absolutely incredible! Its an old video now so you might not see my questions. 1. Do you think its always better to paint from greyscale for this line of work? or do some artist paint with colors right away? 2. When you said the the thumbnails were submitted, does that mean you have to submit your every progress to your director? or is it just something you do to get their opinion? Thank you for all the useful videos you provide us!
@deivcalviz Жыл бұрын
Thanks! 1. For dark scenes, greyscale works great but for sunny bright scenes, it is better to paint in color. The reason is that painting in greyscale on bright is not good is because it will look muddy and unnatural if you color it. 2. Yes, i submit daily to my AD. Most people submit 2-3 times a week. Its a collaborative effort and ive been on both sides. Hope that makes sense.

@zulaikaabdulaziz28592 жыл бұрын
as a self-taught artist myself. Its possible! But you have to really pay attention to everything the artist does and try your best to replicate what they do. Try to also find any tutorials they show or if you want extra details, you can sign up in their art classes thru Patreon etc. (Sorry if this doesn't help much)
@joebitin98732 жыл бұрын
It is possible and it takes time. I've been into digital arts for 3 years (or so?) and my skills isnt beyond this level, but I've noticed improvements over the past few years. An advice I could give is to watch tutorials, mainly on the coloring, lighting, and your shading preferences since its what brings the art to life. Also explore and familiarize the app of your choice. Please remember that improvements takes time and patience, dont give up and it'll all be worth it in the end.
