I basically colored the lineart to whatever color is underneath then reduce it's opacity and merge it to solid layer underneath.. I have a tutorial about that specific technique if you are interested www.artstation.com/a/1142981

Lol dont worry about that. Its a bug. The real layer count sits at 100-200 layers.. still a lot haha. I think the bug happens when i duplicate PSDs many times.

IT IS 100 hours of work! That is the typical amount of time to do a splash art. It takes lots of research and lots of versions and revisions. A personal artwork can take just 1/4 of that time.. XD

@@TheMihig I'm mostly self taught. I started learning from tutorials in Deviantart then eventually started watching youtube videos. I also started reading books like Color and Light and Andrew Loomis, etc. Until now I'm still studying other people's art to improve. Just keep studying and you will get there!

Resolution doesnt matter because this is not printed, but in terms of pixel size, 10000 x 5625 for this one. Lately, I only use 8000 x 4500 to save space.

I suggest focusing on being good with the basics like anatomy, perspectice, composition, color theories, etc. Then do a lot of art that looks like splash art. Always use reference!

It's a mix of training yourself to be observant, using lots of references, learning how to visualize things in 3D, and lots of practice. :)

Good Question. Just click here View>Proof Setup>Custom>Dot Gain 20% That is just a temporary grayscale and colors are still there. Press that again to disable it or Ctrl + Y

Yup material studies help a lot but what is more important is to understand the scene as a whole. Like for example, in this scene, the whole bg is clamped into midtone while the character contains all the super dark and super light values. There are other possible combinations for illustrations and this is just one of the standard ones. :)

Glad you like it! I get feedback just like any other freelance job. I usually get written feedback. I've done enough splashes to understand most of what they want. Sometimes, I get a paintover when they request something more specific or if I don't understand it. The goal is to get as less feedback as possible and to achieve this goal, I always put my work side by side to other splash artwork to see if it matches.

I still use references but its still important to keep doing studies so you memorize the poses. Actually poses repeat again and again in different splash art if you pay attention

4 weeks usually and around 60-100+ work hours. I usually make 4-6 other thumbnails not included in the video and I also spend a lot of time to research.

Forgot to mention, I used DAZ3D to double check the perspective after doing the sketch. There are lots of other free 3D apps to help with anatomy in mobile. Clip studio paint also has 3D mannequins.

Usually no unless the design has something big. I usually just focus on the energy, pose, and composition of the scene. The details come in later.
