Ιt is very remote in comparison to the other Greek Aegian islands. Almost invisible until you zoom on Google Earth. But it is getting increasingly popular in spite of its size and its proximity to Turkey. Or maybe because of it.

Thw Island f ΚΑΣΤΕΛΛΌΡΙΖΟ (Kastellorizo) was part of the Vanice Republic and it was controlled by Italy until 1947, It was returnrd to Greece with the Treaty of Paris of 1947 and was not included in the previous Treaty of Lausanne of 1923 at the end of the Ottoman Empire.

"kastelorizo" is the nickname, not the official name which is "megisti". kastelorizo comes from italian which was "castello rosso" = "the red castle" , which was allegely on top of the hill on the island.
