I have visited Greece 4 times since 2010, 3 visits to Santorini! , once in Jan 2014, it was cold and raining when I took the boat tour from Santorini to the volcano Island 😊 My 2019 visit was from Ferthyi, Turkey, took a 90 minutes speed ferry to Rhode Island and spend 5 wonderful days there. It was difficult to leave, I met so many lovely people at my hostel! It was so nice to cook a simple meal in the newly renovated kitchen with free cook books! Rhonda became my new favorite after Santorini and Crete! I visited Crete during the Greek Easter accidentally, so supermarket were closed for 2 days, it was a bit frustrating because everything shuts down! I think few people discovered that there are similar costal towns on the Turkish Rivera, such as KOS, tranquil and pristine and cheaper due to Lira. I visited during June 2019, just a few days before visiting Rhode Island. Both Aegean coastlines are very similar, I love to visit there again!

In 1987 I was in Ikaria with friends. We stayed in Evdilos and we used to eat in one of the tavernas of the port. We were stunned to find out that when the fish weren't fresh from the day's catch, they refused to serve us. Therefore, I strongly believe that one of the factors of their longevity is due to their honesty and clear consciousness. I have so much respect for these islanders and I hope that all that publicity didn't ruin their souls.

@@Sokratis-qv9ld check a map: greece lies in the balkan. The mainland greece from where i am it is the continuation of dinaric alps into greece. Greeks have more common with italians and balkan nations than with turks. The guy above says that kos belongs in turkey. Read the comments before you comment. The seaside town of KAS, looks so Greek, White stone paths, blue roof etc. It was difficult to end my vacation after 3 weeks there!😊 There are so many Roman ruins in Turkey and it's cheaper to visit the museums there

Greece is one of the most diverse countries, but most people when they think of her, they think of the islands … mainland Greece is way more interesting in every sense … topography (beautiful plains and spectacular mountains with gorgeous rivers and lakes), demographics with so many local differences, deep historical roots that go back millennia, and food varieties to die for … next trip, skip the islands and explore the vast mainland from top to bottom and left to right …😊

Msg from Istanbul: My dear neighbour, whenever I travel abroad, since I was 10 years old, my best friends have been Greeks - some, lifetime friends, that I have been blessed with. We share the same beautiful Aegean Sea, western part of Turkey has many similarities & culture (Greeks are much better in protecting & preserving). Politics and politicians mess up many things. We shall never allow them to separate the two communities; I personally dont, naturally everyone is free to make up their mind and life style. One thing that I've learned about the documentary is. Is not about the diet, the people, or the environment. Or what are our nationalities, our ethnicity, color etc. I have learned to be proud of our own nationalities, cultures, food, and diet. That's the key to long life. We shouldn't be accumulated by media, high standards of diet. Eat this eat that. Because in the first place, we Filipinos have a fertile land, good beaches, places, and more. Our diet consists of rice, crops, fish, and some meat. We dont get sick we also have centenarians here. Sticking to a simple diet and lifestyle.

Two comments- updates. 1.Captain Augustis, unfortunatelly passed away this year. I guess in his new residence he 'll find a way to sail people from hell to heaven forever and ever. 2. Kimolos is by no means an unspoiled island anymore. It looks like it compared to Mykonos, but the waves of hypertourism leave nothing unspoiled.

No it’s just a documentary about real people living in a real place. DW does a lot of videos with this topic in mind.

Unfortunately tourism creates it's own problems. The government is pressured to provide the tourism sector with cheap labour, against the interests of the workers. Thousands of young people live under poor conditions, working up to 12 hours/day, very often 7 days/week for at least 6 months. Big foreign businesses have created their own hotels and they can't seem to find workers, hence the Greek govt is turning a blind eye to all the abuse the workers receive and even considering changing the laws for benefits, effectively creating poorer people looking for a job

They prefer to import workers than to improve the work conditions for the locals. Greece is beautiful but the Greek state is ugly AF.

I wished peoples realized the only change we need to make to again have that abundance of fresh water, we most obviously need (for e.g.'s to do laundry and/or the dishes, to take a shower or a bath all take a relative abundance of water, particularly for each of us, the world over) too due (to do) is stop deforestation-style logging, instead log sustainably. This would take selection logging with no highrading, saving relative old growth while maintaining canopy for hydrology, which is how the collective transpiration from forested areas piles up over hill or mountain tops, above ridges too, forming into rainclouds that dump rain. I recently saw a YT thumbnail of a video saying the Sahara Desert is greening, is that a good thing or bad. I'd say it's a good thing brought to us thru Wangari Matthai, who I think won maybe even a Nobel Prize for her efforts. She started the Green Belt Movement, you can look up. We need much more of the same and to get our governments to legislate aforementioned changes. So future generations can enjoy like past generations, please consider.
