First time I'm seeing Rika perform this kata. Stunning she is. I am very fond of her world champ 2012 final kata. I could (probably have LOL!) watch it 100 x's and never tire of it. She is so fast and talented. Also seems to b a very nice person. I was so happy 4 her when she won! She picked a good kata.

@ducarian This further injures her opponents arm. She then strikes through her opponents knee while pulling on the arm to maximize the strike against the knee. The pull is that large to emphasize it's proportional importance in relation to the strike to the knee. I always get yelled at for not pulling enough.

Very fast, and quite elegant. However, I don't understand the first kiai. In the Shotokan kata, one pulls the enemy off balance and kicks hard into his or her knee and kiai's. The pulling back into the stack doesn't seem like a "kiai moment" to me. Maybe a practitioner of this style can help me understand.

JKA is shotokhan, this is Shitoryu. Nekouachi dachi replaces the Kokutsu dachi and shiko dachi instead of Kiba dachi

It's actually the Shito Ryu style that has that sort of cat stance. Surely, you are not that igrnorant?

@deosullivan3 I am no expert and I practice a different lineage of Shito Ryu, but I will try to explain. I will start from the grab. As she grabs she is hopefully breaking the arm at the same time by striking the elbow with her right hand. She then raises her knee between her extended hands.

Lol that's not traditional bassai dai cat stance where back stances are suppose to be come on that's a bit to much sacrifice for competition, i under stand some people sacrafice stance for speed but they never change the stance in the kata to make it look pretty why not just train the real kata and actually get good at it instead of getting lazy and making it work for competition...
