There is a centuries-old Narasimha Swamy temple in Kadiri of Anantapur district Andhra Pradesh. Locals believe that the fierce Lord Narasimha came to this region after killing Hiranyakasipu. It is said that the Swami who came here in a state of rage used to hunt wild animals in the forest . That is why he got the name Vetarayadu. 'Vey' became 'Bay' under the influence of the geographically nearby Kannada language. In public this Betrayu - Betrai became Sami - The Hunting Lord Narasimha . Also, there is another Lord Narasimha on a small hillock adjacent to a village called Godduvelagala in the same district. He is known as Katemi Rayudu (Katama Rayudu). 'Kadu' is just a forest. He got that name because he is the God in it. A song dedicated to both Kadiri Narasimha Swami and Godduvelgala Narasimha Swami is 'Betrai Sami Devavuda'. This song is in pure local Telugu dialect and each stanza describes each avatara as in Dashavataras of Lord Vishnu. Not only that, the power to express the feelings of the mind strongly and beautifully is visible.
