The sword is great, now make a sheath for it, and remember a sword is always stored blade side up, and even then in a sheath, an open blade displayed means you are at war. Your attention to detail is absolutely amazing, keep up the good work.

The good: Beautifully polished, unique handle, and well-crafted. The bad: The tsuba is a little too simplistic, the blade isn't curved as much as a standard katana or as long and the tip is too wide.

“Perfect combination of modern and classic” That, sir, it is not. It feels more like a vibro-blade than a katana, but then again perhaps I’m biased against modern interpretations of katana. Artistic opinions aside I think you’ve got some serious issues going on structurally, primarily in the handle. You made a cylindrical handle, which doesn’t lend well to swords because they throw off the indexing. That’s the major reason why your demo cuts weren’t straight, the blade itself wasn’t indexed correctly in your hand so when you went to cut the bottles the blade followed the angle it was held at and curved the cut. Practice could also be a part of it, but the handle shape certainly wasn’t helping any. You skeletonized the wood you used for the handle, leaving maybe a quarter inch of it in the center, then charred it. I understand charred wood is more durable, but you know what else char does? Prevent epoxy from adhering, so you’ve definitely got a weak bond between the epoxy and the wood. Finally, your mekugi pin was drilled right through the thin wood neck and is, at least to my eye, way thicker than the neck was before you added epoxy. So you took a thick dowel, turned it into a board, charred it, epoxied the char, and then drilled out what little wood there actually was, so now the only thing holding it together is the weak bond between the char and the epoxy. Clearly that handle is strong enough to survive light demos, but give it a good couple whacks against something even remotely durable and your handle will shatter into at least 3 pieces and your blade will either be lodged in what you were cutting or on the other side of the room.
