In August 2012 Katatonia released Dead End Kings, their ninth studio album. The album was the band's most successful to date and cemented the Swede's position as masters of sorrowful metal.
Dead End Kings was released on the Peaceville label, the band's home for the past 14 years. In September 2013 the band return with Dethroned and Uncrowned, their first release on Kscope, Peaceville's sister label.
Many of the ecstatic reviews the Dead End Kings received commented on the fact that the album marked another step in the band's journey towards a more progressive sound. Dethroned and Uncrowned allows them to explore these elements of the record further as they have reworked the album, creating new moods and textures while still staying truthful to the core of the songs.
The album will be available on double LP, download and as 2 disc (CD & DVD-AV) digibook set, which also features a 5.1 surround mix of the album.

I love this song. I'd jam out to "Dethroned and uncrowned" on my old 160 gigabyte iPod classic back in 2014. This song brings back memories of that year when I'd relax in my old blue recliner that use to be at my uncle's house. Sadly, that chair is long gone. It's been 4 years since my uncle took it to the dump. But I'm in the process in getting a new recliner to replace that old soft chair. When I get my new chair soon, you bet I'm going to jam out to this song, and the rest of this katatonia album while I'm sitting in my new chair, my prized posession. A chair that I will not pass down to any family members. My old chair would still existed if I took it from my uncle's house back in 2014. and it would've still been here today in 2024. For sure this is my to-go album when I relax in my new chair. might get my new recliner later this year around the fall. looking for a recliner that looks exactly like my old blue one. will probably get a dark blue one since my old cozy soft recliner was a bright blue color.

For a strange reason a distortion guitar at any moment in this song would have sounded brilliant... Still not used to this Katatonia sound, but let´s give them a chance to deploy a new sound... and hopefuly some day, as the time is cyclic, they could go back to their previous sounds in a masterly way. Katatonia did the right thing, and released it as a side album. They stayed true to their fans with all of their main albums, then sought crowd-funding for this wonderful deviation. Opeth alienated a lot of their fans with 'Heritage'. Katatonia has given fans something amazing to coincide with their 'Dead End Kings', not instead of.

It's just them being creative with their last album. There will almost definitely be a lot of distorted guitar in the next album. You don't have to get used to this sound. This is literally the album Dead End Kings without distorted guitar. The same songs exactly. This is not a new direction, it's an experiment. It's a new way to hear old songs. That's all.

I, of course, have not heard the whole album but I have a feeling this song is not the best example for the album. The guitar riff that repeats during the verse is imo, crucial, to the overall feeling of the composition...without it, the song sounds weak. I'm digging the chorus part though, the accentuated vocals are welcome. I'm still making up my mind on this one.
