I do too! They are holy and hilarious if that makes sense. LOL My grandmother was friends with Dr Mattie and she used to tell me how sweet the girls were when they were kids. We're all from Detroit. I'm in New Orleans now, been here the past almost 30 years, but my grandmother knew their mother very well, and a lot of their family.

I love hot water cornbread. I make mine differently. But I've had similar to this way, and it's good as well. I mix the premixed mill with the plain because it's way too salty for me. I add a little sugar but not enough to make them sweet. I taste a lil pinch to make sure it's right .. I'm not eating it 😂. I make my hot water cornbread more like patties that you shape with your hand. When making the type like hers I think a lil onion is good. When my mom makes a similar type, she uses Jiffy (no additional sugar because Jiffy is sweet enough). And cream corn and a lil finely diced onion sometimes, we call those corn cakes. Very good.

Happy Holidays. I cook cornbread as well. I go the shirt way instead of baking powder, baking soda, and so on. 1 cup self rising flour, 1 cup self rising corn meal, and 1 cup of milk, 3/4 cup oil, and 2 eggs.
