My new favourite Kate mannerism is the shoulder shrug and grin at the beginning. She did the same shrug in the biker episode. So cute. Also love how un-ironically proud she is to have been handcuffed to a post. Bless her! 😂

So Lucy’s family isn’t accepting of her being gay. It’s not clear about Kate’s though. Seems like they are because Kate said that her mom has a vision board for her wedding and she likes the ideas (wether she tells Lucy that or not 😂)

My hunch is that Kate’s mom doesn’t know Kate likes women. That would explain why Kate was scared to come out to her boss in 2x02. What do you all think?

Well, these are two completely different things. You can be open and honest with your family and at the same time keep your private life secret at work (and vice versa, of course). Coming out at work is not easy for everyone, I know a few examples of this - especially as there was also the possibility that her boss could have assumed a conflict of interest. But since we don't know whether Kate had a girlfriend at school, it remains pure speculation (or have I missed something? I only remember Lucy's first girlfriend, who preferred to have adventures rather than sit quietly on some hills).

I think kate's mom already knows she likes women. Kate said her mom never gave up hope. So I'm guessing she told her mom and her mom supports her

@@Anonymous-sm9ld Yes, I agree with you there, from the little we know, she seems to have had her coming out to her family. There's nothing wrong with planning a wedding with a woman and if movies are to be believed, such "wishing boards" seem to be very US-American, as often as such things are mentioned...? But it remains speculative. It just seems illogical to me (from my experience) to conclude from not coming out at work that she is also not out interfamilially (as alicia wrote first). It's (unfortunately) not always that easy, even in 2024, and you're lucky if you have a loving home and an open-minded, free working environment.

starting when they look at the dress: Lucy: really? don't you think it's a bit... loud? Kate: what- that's what weddings are supposed to be! big and loud! Lucy: hey! I am from texas, no one does big and loud like us. oh, you should've seen my brothers weddings. Kate: it's not your thing? Lucy: I just... I knew from a young age that my parents weren't gonna give me one of those. Kate: right. that sucks, i'm sorry. Lucy: no I just, um... I figured I'd never get married. so why dream? with the brother thing she's implying their weddings were "big and loud". With the parents, she's implying that her parents don't approve of her lifestyle enough to give her a "big and loud" wedding. presumably meaning they don't approve of her being gay (could also be that they don't approve of her career choice, but i lean toward her sexuality cuz she says "from a young age").

I agree with you: Since job has nothing to do with marriage, it can only be about her parents not (or only partially?) accepting her homosexuality. I'm curious to see if the scriptwriters pick up the thread again and if Lucys parents would be present at a "quiet" wedding - if there will be one. (Forgive my bad English.)

@@Helena_3505 Yeah I think you're right that it's about her sexuality. I seem to recall an episode where Lucy implies that her parents don't agree with her career choice? I could be making that up-- if it did happen it was a while ago. So I always got the impression they were already semi-estranged due to that. But yeah, in regard to no "big wedding" it definitely seems more to do with her sexuality. I wonder to what extent Lucy has a relationship with them at ALL if they 1) don't approve of her career and 2) don't approve of her sexuality. I'd definitely want to see more about both Kate and Lucy's family's at some point. From this conversation it seems like Kate might have a good relationship with her mom, so I'd be curious to see more of that too. And your English is great! No need to apologize!

It seems as if Lucy is already out. Until we get confirmation, we can assume it is that and her job choice are the reasons her relationship with them is strained.
