Kate - BBC4 "Front Row", November 4, 2005: "This song is really about the passing of time... I like the idea of coming from this big expansive, outside world of sea and cities into, again, this very small space where, er, it's talking about a memory of my mother and this little brown jug. I always remember hearing years ago this thing about a sort of Zen approach to life, where, you would hold something in your hand, knowing that, at some point, it would break, it would no longer be there"

A friend just sent this song to me and I'd never heard it before. Tears came to my eyes. What a beautiful song. I lost my mum suddenly (no warning) 6 weeks after my first child was born. That child has just turned 10. I'm glad my mum got to hold her and love her, albeit briefly. Love to all of you and your mothers both here and passed xxx

In my grandpa's house there is a room filled with old things we do not dare touch, all covered in dust and spiderwebs. They belong to people who already passed or to my grandparents themselves, but in what seems like another life to them. A couple things were mine as a kid, and now that also seems another life to me. As my family slowly changes and people leave us, something remains in time, a print of what used to be. That feeling of peeking under the spiderwebs is so well put in this song, it always brings tears to my eyes.

I'm playing this at my mother's funeral in a week's time. Very sad, beautiful and haunting but also helpful: the spider of time, crawling out of the broken jug, helps to heal, but you also really have to fully experience your grief to heal (put your hand over the side over the boat).

I am a fisherman. Late one night in December of 2005 we were steaming off to the Coral Bank in the North sea. The night was beautiful. Cold, clear and windless, I was staring up at the sky looking at all the stars thinking of a great friend I had recently lost at sea while playing this album for the first time. This track came on.....Kates haunting voice captured the moment perfectly. Your video took my breath away. Thank you for sharing it.

I always come back to this video, it's so powerful. My closest friend lost his mother at a very young age and I myself have a terrible relationship with my abusive mother. I often feel it's so unfair that my friend should be bereft of a loving and kind mother while I have one who causes me nothing but pain. This song and the visuals added here always touch me so deeply.

@@reneeburgevin8178 , I did watch it again. I felt I needed to, to catch all of the great dialogue. I certainly can appreciate your feeling that the series WAS emotionally intense, as a lot of us can relate to it’s topics of relationship/marital breakups, incompatibility, family tensions, and losses. The last hour was very dear, well done, and satisfying: Connie’s talk with Doug before she left their home to go live in London. Then a year later, their son’s successful photography exhibit entitled “Corazon”, which focused on his father’s heart condition, Doug’s sincere appreciation, and his meeting up later with his new girlfriend, Freya, at the art museum and looking together at a Renaissance painting. The series was so relatable and universal for many of us! Take good care, stay safe, and God bless, Renee. ☺️🙏 ⭐️💜

No song really latches onto my imagination like this. I would love it if more musicians would cover a variety of topics and craft stories, outside of romantic relationships.

(I just posted this comment on one of her demos from 1976.) I get the feeling that she knew all along this was all meant to happen. And that "The Universe" had it all figured out a long time ago.

Really a splendid song, probably the best of her "Aerial" album. Mr Marrs, great job for the video, it deserves very well the atmosphere of this Kate masterpiece.

I turned 50 a month ago, so I thought that I 'knew' about the music of Kate Bush? Wrong! I should have delved deeper many years ago because what I thought I knew was merely the tip of the iceberg!
