That is such an epically sombre opening. Even though it was written 7 or 8 years before The Red Shoes, I feel that this belongs as the closing song of The Red Shoes, after You're the One- because that album is supposed to be somewhat 'poppy' but it could use a bit more upbeatedness - and You Want Alchemy belongs as an extra track on Aerial.

Oh, with a mind that renders everything sensitive, What chance do I have here? Put an end, put an end, Put an end to every dream. When you're near, I fear you, And I forget myself. But not this time. Not this time. Not this time, baby, Not this time. I don't know why I give in, but I do every time. And here I am wondering why I did it again. Too-ree-ay, too-ree-o, too-ree-ay, too-ree-o, too-ree-ay's what I say To keep me going, To keep the shit away. I don't know what it is, But every time you're near, I fear you, And I forget myself. No, not this time, baby. Not this time, you won't. Not this time, darling. C'mon, we all sing: Too-ree-ay, too-ree-o, too-ree-ay, too-ree-o, Too-ree-ay, too-ree-o, too-ree-ay, too-ree-o, Too-ree-ay, too-ree-o, too-ree-ay, too-ree-o,

I love this song so much, for me it's like a sequel to Big Sky ... strong drums, great background chorus. Especially the moment at around 2:30 when the song takes a short breath and then Kate's "Come on, we all sing" .... after that pure bliss

Yeah. Her vocal style in this song is also very reminiscent of The Big Sky and I see what you mean when you say it’s like a sequel to The Big Sky. I personally absolutely love this song and it’s one of my favorite b-sides from Kate.

*Thank you* so much for this very High Quality audio upload. 🌟🌟🌟 It is as dear to me as any of Kate's. Not to be found anywhere (I just bought The Other Sides and hadn't checked, it's not there, my loss), except on the massive This Woman's Work - won't get that for just two songs I'm short of. I've got to find out if this "B-side" is available via digital download. I've got to have this song in my Kate catalog. A comment below is absolutely correct - Kate doesn't have B-sides. For anybody else this would be a career starter. I remember previous posts on other forums - does Kate make bad songs? No.
@lance6944 жыл бұрын
At certain points it's almost like she's vomiting the lyrics out of her throat. I don't even mean that as a negative. Only Kate fucking Bush could dry-heave the lyrics of a song out and somehow make you feel like you've just witnessed a goddamn masterpiece unfold in your lap. Easily in my Kate Bush top 5.

Hounds of Love is a perfect 10. Even though 'The Big Sky' is on it. I suppose that song served a purpose between the uptempo Hounds of Love and sombre Mother Stands for Comfort.

@@reesemorgan2259 The Ninth wave is a perfect 9.5 . Hounds of love ( because of its title tracks, precisely ) is "barely" a 8. A 8 would be, of course, fantastic to 95% of composers. ;)

@@christinekelley3620 Not This Time sounds like it would've fit right in on The Sensual World. Under the Ivy would've fit onto Hounds of Love better than any of her other albums but it still doesn't quite fit so I understand why it was just a B-side.
