The incredible thing is kate was so young when she wrote these songs. From young teenager up until early 20's. Yet it sounds like music from an elder. Quite timeless

Thank you very much for looking at another Kate Bush track. This was one of the first KB songs that really drew me into her. In Kate's words: "‘Sat In Your Lap’ is very much a search for knowledge. And about the kind of people who really want to have knowledge but can’t be bothered to do the things that they should in order to get it. So they’re sitting there saying how nice it would be to have this or to do that without really desiring to do the things it takes you to get it. And also the more you learn the more ignorant you realize you are and that you get over one wall to find an even bigger one"

She really pushed it on The Dreaming. Like she was learning and trying everything in the studio. Then she took all that and built her own. Next came The Hounds Of Love. 100% Kate made masterpiece. You gotta love her.

I think that we can agree that without Kate really going for it on "The Dreaming," we would never have got the iconic "Hounds Of Love". It was a very negative reaction from EMI complaining about studio costs that pushed her to create a professional recording studio in the barn behind her parent's house, and what happened next is history.

Really enjoyed your reaction to this video. I think you had your eyes closed concentrating on the music and lyrics when the book flew away from her lap, (one of my favourtite parts of the video). It always makes me think how knowledge can be elusive and yeah have you to work at it.

This was the first single released from Kate's 4th studio album "The Dreaming", it was released well in advance of the album. "The Dreaming" was the 1st album that Kate produced on her own. On the previous album "Never For Ever," Kate was credited as a co-producer. "The Dreaming" is my personal favourite Kate Bush album because it's an "out there" album that initially didn't get a good reception from the music critics. It has since undergone a reevaluation and is now considered to be a very important groundbreaking album. The video was filmed at the Abbey Road studios, and once again, it's a very distinctive music video.

Nice reaction! If you like the wild ride Kate takes you on I highly recommend 'Get out of my house' from this album. Also I don't see any Ren on your channel, if you don't know, he's an independent contemporary British artist who, like Kate is a free spirit with incredible talent and diversity. I suggest starting with 'Hi Ren', I think you'd appreciate it! Cheers.

Awesome reaction. Kate was bringing in images of the Tarot card dynamism to express the different aspects within a person. The fool card zero, the bumbling ignorant self who actually carries all four elements with him, all he needs to attain knowledge. The jugglers or magicians that flank her on rollerskates, leaping and spinning,are the self in knowledge. The bull is the stubborn obstinate self who 'couldn't be bothered'. Kate was interested in the ideas of Gurdjieff and the mysticism of the Sufi Dervishes. She has mentioned in interviews that we each seem to have many different people inside of us, a lack of inner unity. This is expressed in the video in a very cool way. At the end, we start to see the whole chorus growing bigger and moving forward in unision. The final lines are crazy! : "Comin up the ladder.. A jet to Mecca, Tibet or Jedda, To Salisbury, The Monastery, The longest journey, Across the desert, Across the weather, Across the elements, Across the water.."

I wonder how it became a means of humiliating children as punishment for foolish behavior or ignorance. Worth some research. Lol The other 'givaway' in tbe song that points to the ideas of Gurdnieff is tbe verse: "I must admit Just when I think I am King I just begin Just when I think I am King I must admit I just Begin.." Why would she wish to be King and not Queen? G often used the common deck of cards to represent the dynamics of inner life. In particular, the three centers: Intellect, (King) Emotion, (Queen) Intuition (Knave) And the four suites correspond to the four 'bodies' or magnetic centers: Intellectual Emotional Physical Instinctive The goal of achieving inner unity is comparable to having all four suites (elements) and the other houses, Queen snd Knave subject to the King as 'higher mind'. This was the struggle to become master of oneself, and it IS a struggle. I am quite sure that Kate was referencing both ordinary knowledge and other more austere categories of knowledge.

Most of it to me seems like British imagery, sensibilities, humor and eccentricities. Sounds too experimental and abstract. She's a great pianist and music composer, sounds like she was having a mad bizzare day, then wrote about it 😅
