Great singer, song-writer, dancer, producer, choreographer, non-publicity seeking and an all round wonderful entertainer. Truly one of a rare breed that makes her so special.

While I can't call myself a Kate Bush fanatic. I can't think of an artist I respect more than her. You can tell she is a totally representation of her own artistic sensibilities. Yes, you can tell from her songwriting and her performances that she studied the right people. But to be able to synthesize those influences into original material and have the conviction to stick to her guns! Record executives probably called her all sort of of names behind her back. She is truly fearless and modern female artists owe her a debt of gratitude.

This is a rare classic ! I remember watching this, acutely, as a child, when it first appeared on TV (It was 1979, on Kate's own TV special). I was allowed to watch it, as my parents already had the first two albums on vinyl and played them often. What do I remember most about it? The dance routine. A female singer and two "Heavies" in trenchcoats and hats. And that swinging light bulb! I was four years old and that indelible memory lingered on for decades to come. We didn't have a video recorder back then and DVDs and digitial streaming was a long way in the future, so it was just my memory that replayed that performance, leaving it's mark. Kate continued to be a huge inspiration to me, even at an early age!

I love Kate Bush. I only found out about her a year ago, but about 3 months in I bought everything I could find of her on vinyl. She somehow touches an ethereal spot in my soul, she makes me yearn for talent and nostalgia. She really makes me think of the wonders of childhood, her voice carries a kind of child-like wonder. I'm at once extremely attracted to her and in awe of her artistic genius. The world needs more artists like this!!!

Amazing! I have an old compact cassette that is about 30 years old. All the song titles and band names are missing. This was one of the songs but I would have guessed she was the singer! Now it makes sense when I listen to this. By the way, Kate Bush is the greatest female popular music artist of all time. IMHO.

I was at one of the Bham shows and still remember what a triumph it was. Kate deservedly gets the credit but i'd like to congratulate her band aswell. They have never put a foot wrong, when it really mattered, and have made an unmeasurable contribution to the Kate phenomenon.

Heard this in 1979 during my college days at UGA, Athens GA. Had a "heavy friend" in my Drama class, and this was her "Anthem". She did a dance routine along with singing it, and brought the house down, and got a standing ovation from us all! She was kind of a female John Belushi, highly animated and physical for her degree of "plumpness". Amazingly sexy to watch her do this routine, so I guess Kate's lyrics were spot on with: "I must work on my mind, for now I realize, Everyone of us, has a heaven inside". So true!

The older generation in my group Except my mom didn't like her music I remember my aunt winnie pike Didn't like kate bush she called her Screecher my moms cousin Winnie pike said everytime Screecher comes on totps she turned the tv off. I found myself doing that when Jonnie Mathis and Denise Williams Sang too much too little too late Singing its over it used to drive me Nuts on a little transistor radio

I remember seeing her perform this song on the American TV show "Saturday Night Live" in the late 70's. I was about 14 at the time. She also sang "The Man With the Child In His Eyes" sitting cross-legged on a grand piano. That was my introduction to Kate Bush. No one in the USA had heard of her yet, and I think it was her first appearance on American television.

In 1978, Kate appeared on Saturday night live where she performed this song which went over the heads of the people who were expecting to see someone like Pat Benatar or Laura Branigan. People in America didn't pick up on Her which is unfortunate because She's absolutely brilliant.

+Steve Paul Absolutely agree with you. Kate was a singular phenomenon, in vocal ranges, and theatrical elements in her shows. Americans (most of them anyway) didn't know what to make of her, or how to classify her. She didn't fit into any "genre" they had ever experienced. And that's precisely why I found her so marvelous and mystifying. She was simply "Kate". Beautiful inside and out! Exquisite!

100 comments in 1 year and almost all (including #100) ecstatic about both the song and the video, works of art in the best sense. The song was a high point of the first album, which was a succession of high points, and the video really amplifies the song by embodying both the exhiliration and the comic intensity of that initial encounter with new ideas. Genius inded, of the rarest sort.
