It is almost with embarrassment that I, a transported North Yorkshire lad, avid folk music fan for 50 years, emigrant to Canada and now in Vermont, USA for the past 35 years, admits to not knowing of Kate Rusby until the past year when , in a bunch of cd's I acquired from a local couple, in there was one of Kate's first albums. Captivated, I am now on a quest to acquire as many of Kate's albums as possible.. Many thanks for posting this wonderful video.

🐝 I am so grateful that Kate includes the Colliery Brass Band in so much of her music. I have no connection to mining, but played in bands and appreciate the skill, artistry, and camaraderie of these groups. The way they support and intertwine with her beautiful voice is very uplifting.

A few years ago I used to play her song, The big ship sails, at a playgroup in Edinburgh, on my mobile phone. All the kids loved it, and I used to have to play it several times to assuage their thirst for her lovely voice. I often wonder how many of those wee kids still remember her singing. Whoever made the original video, included still shots of old sailing ships, knew a thing or two about music and images. The weird thing is someone told me she was from Nottingham and I believed them LOL

A beautiful film. It just confirms why I love Kate and her music so much. Would have liked a mention of then husband, musical collaborator and producer, John McCusker, though we did see him once or twice. Maybe this was when their marriage was breaking up. I've been a fan of Kate for many years, and this made me nostalgic for when I lived in South Yorkshire. There is a sad aspect to this film though - although it isn't mentioned for obvious reasons, at the time she had just split up with her husband John McCusker, though he was still touring with her (the one playing fiddle). I think some of the songs on the album are about the break-up, so must have been a very uncomfortable situation for both of them.

Actually you can cut out the big lables who as an artist you would be mad to sign for. Ask Taylor swift or George Michael. The notion that independence is not an option has been pedaled for years. It's a case of getting the right advice at the right time. Compass records is an independent lable started by Allison Brown over 20 years ago (a talented accountant and banjo player) And has a stock of clients including Andrea Zonn (fiddle player and singer with James Taylor no less) The dreaded 24/7 contracts which are financial "Venus fly traps" are defacto "asset striping" devices that exist to shut down competition and shelve artists that can compete against their own portfolios. It's never been easier to go it alone with the right advice and representation. Obviously Kate and her family are fully aware of the independent route behind the wisest. I wish them the greatest of success.
