I was 11 when MMPR was new, and I didn't get into it back then. At the age of 34, looking back, I have a lot more appreciation for what it was. That said, the fan film was phenomenal. Totally not what I was expecting, and it was just wonderful. Maybe a little gritty (understatement), and I get why old fans of the original show wouldn't like it, but it sure as hell generated a lot of interest in an old show, making it worthy of respect just for that. =)

I don't understand this. Wasn't this ''fan'' film plain old copyright infringement? It was made by a Hollywood producer. They used all the copyrighted names and images and they even called it Power/Rangers. They never said anywhere that it was a fan film. Now they even call it a parody. I never saw 1 thing that showed that it was a parody. I didn't see a thing in that short that made fun or commented on the original. It was just a dark version. It's more than logical for Saban to protect their rights and to pull it off the internet. Power Rangers is still being aired. New episodes are still coming out. I can understand why Saban doesn't want kids exposed to a version where they kill, do coke and show naked whores. I liked the short but I can understand why Saban did what it did.

IIKaiserII Saban's always been known as a douche… it's the reason why most of the original cast won't return to the show at all (not even anniversary seasons). Except for Jason David Frank, only because he thinks he has a shot to be in the new film because he has a huge ego and thinks the franchise lies on his shoulders.

David Jordao Jason David Frank and other castmembers do tons of conventions and also have returned to the show. Years ago there was a forever red episode with almost all red power rangers. Just recently they also did a reunion where a lot of the old cast returned. There are maybe a few cases where they had trouble with. Jason David Frank also seems like an incredible nice guy that always takes a moment with his fans and he always returns to the show when they ask him. He had a career as an MMA fighter and he also loves doing the PR stuff. I wouldn't say he has a big ego. Isn't it logical for him wanting to be in the new movie? His acting career isn't that great and it would be a lot of fun for the diehard fans to see him in a cameo. I don't think he's asking for a large role or something. If he is, then he's being unrealistic.

Imho this short goes beyond fanart. It might be free, but it for sure cashes in on attention and publicity. That alone is a value in today's world. Not to mention that views alone actually make money on youtube. And if the authors didn't have even the slightest communication with copyright holders, I'm not surprised they are not happy. This problem always has to be considered when doing fanart. And the rule usually strangly is: you can do it, unless the result is too good. This one however is too good.

I would love to see more mature minded superhero type films like Dredd. Watched the short film and while it was well done, for what it was, it wasn't The Power Rangers. Though the use of their names, costumes, etc is CLEAR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT. And this thing was in no way a parody either. But I do hope this director gets to do some kind of project of this nature somewhere down the line.

Sabah and Liongate should be glad of this film. It got people talking about Power Rangers again. I was a fan of it growing up as a little kid. Haven't watched it since Power Rangers in space cause I grew up and realized how cheesy it is. Don't be me wrong, I still have fond memories of it, but kids these days I believe don't really care for it. It needs to be changed for modern day audiences. For a movie it needs a more engaging story. That means a more mature approach. It doesn't have to be as dark, gory or profanity laced as the fan film was, but it does need to be different from what it was.

I don't understand why people think this isn't a fan film just because the creators work in Hollywood. They are fans of the property and made a non-profit short that is available for all to see for free. Them being in Hollywood and getting big name actors does not change the fact that it's a fan film. Saban most likely would've done this with any fan film that got this much attention because they're making they're own feature film, and they probably don't want any attention taken away from that. That being said however, I still feel Saban legally has every right to do this, no matter how mad people get, just like any owner of an IP can do this to any fan creation. It's understandable that they feel the need to protect their properties. As for the parody thing, from what I understand a parody is something that imitates, makes fun of, or comments on the original idea or property, so i honestly think this counts as a parody. It's commenting on how a dark and gritty version of Power Rangers would be like.

To me (and from a viewer stand point) the views mean nothing. To the director, however, I'm pretty sure he's loving it because his name is getting out there. The reason it has so many views is purely because of the spreading of the news due to the word of mouth. My friend found out from someone and told me and I searched it because I grew up watching it too. Nostalgia was calling. That's all. What really matters is what people thought of it's concept. I thought it was okay and interesting. I wouldn't prefer the cursing, but like everyone is saying, "We're all grown up now, so I guess we can handle it." I believe, however, you can make something dark without the cursing and the sex involved. Like, those two thing sorta took me out of the imagining of this all. But again, it was pretty okay. I'd say a "B-" for me overall.

This was great I was a big fan of the first power rangers. I had always hoped they do a more grittier version. And this guy did that and boy was it dark. I hope they could find some middle ground when they make the re boot movie. A similar tone to the marvel movies.

I agree I don't get the praise at all. This is the type of thing Michael Bay would do, and if his name were on this EVERYONE would be tearing it apart. Power Rangers was definitely not meant to be dark, gritty, and violent. Literally the only thing about the short film that even comes close to resembling what Power Rangers is, are the suits.

Adi and Kahn are legit Hollywood people (producer and Director) and hired legit Hollywood actors to be in this. That doesn't sound like a fan film to me. so they used an IP and used copyrighted and trademarked names and designs they had zero rights too (they even called it a "bootleg"). then when Saban the owners of the IP who have every right to shut it down tries to, they claimed it's a fan film. and Kahn had a hissy fit online complaining about Saban AND the Power Rangers brand (THAT THIS "FAN FILM" WAS ABOUT) I dont see the owner and creator of Power Rangers making copyright claims to this as "harassing" Kahn. When has been the one saying things like "i'm finally making Power Rangers good" when it's not even his to make "good" It's not even a parody, cause you have to track down interviews to read that they claim it was. but anyone that clicks on the video just see GrimDark Power Rangers. plus if you go on the fan boards for Power Rangers. The Adult Fandom HATES this short. RangerCrew.com has a poll where over 80% of the voters say this is something they dont want connected to Power Rangers. It disrespects and doesn't get everything that makes Power Rangers well Power Rangers.
