The digital IS you said to turn on isn’t the sensor stabilizer it’s a digitally cropped mode for additional stabilization that consequently zooms you in further. You may not want this on depending on use. It has other side effects and really may not be needed when already using the sensor stabilization and even lens stabilization.

Great review and thanks - I wanted to know when you turn off the camera and turn it on again I hope I'm sure it maintains the video setting as you showed but when you change the battery does it maintain the video setting as you showed or do you have to do it from the start again and I hope not. Thanks for your kind answer soon I hope because that's very important for me and for all and I'm sure it maintains the video setting also when we change the battery but I want to be sure.

Thanks for the video! I'm curious to see what an advanced Camera setup for R6 would be for video? Like for example, what your settings would be, because you know what you're doing. I imagine similar, but I'm just curious. For example, you told beginners to film in 1080, but do you guys film in 4K UHD? Just curious! Also, one kind of important thing that was left out is the 180 degree shutter rule, to ensure that shutter speed is usually double the frame rate (or close to it), which is hugely important to show natural motion in video. As always, thank you for the content!

Great video as always! Do you think Tyler could do another video with the R6 and updated firmware and how he uses Clog or Clog3 please? I would assume he uses log but maybe not :)
@KatelynJames3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Tyler here! I probably won't do a whole video on this channel about C-log but I'm happy to answer your question here! C-log 3 is a great log profile! It's much flatter than regular C-log but still pretty easy to color grade. I film C-log 2 on my C70s because it gives you the most dynamic range possible but C-log 3 is a good option as well! Just be careful not to underexpose your image or else you'll start to get a lot of noise in the shadows!
@MonaShieldPayne3 жыл бұрын
Hey Tyler, thank you for responding. This makes a lot of sense now; I'm glad to hear you shoot log vs neutral as that was my plan as well. Also, I have been learning about the need to overexpose big time. Tried it myself and yep.... so much noise if not overexposed. It will take some getting used to for sure. If you shoot Log3 on the R6, which you might only use the R5, have you noticed you do not get zebras with the R6? I'm wondering if this is something that needs to be fixed in another firmware upgrade? I see zebras in just log.

Very good video. One thing though, you didn’t talk about setting the shutter speed to correspond to the frame rate. If you use 24 fps shouldn’t you set your camera to a shutter speed of 1/50 sec? Thanks!
@KatelynJames2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is correct! I didn't want to get too technical with this video as it was geared towards photographers. In order to maintain the 1/50 shutter and shoot with a wide aperture you'd need an ND filter which I assume most photographers dabbling in video for the first time won't have initially. -Ty

I have a question: I also have the Canon R6 and I frequently use the Rf 28-70mm f/2 for photos. I am trying to learn videography and I tried to mount this lens and camera on the DJI RS3 and I could not balance it properly. Actually, it felt like the weight needed the plate to be on 0 but the viewfinder of the camera was hitting the gimbal. So, I wonder if I am doing anything wrong. Have you ever used the rf 28-70mm for video on a gimbal, if so, which one? Thank you

If you’re shooting with a rode video mic, what would you set the audio levels at then?
@tylerherrinton25973 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you need to use the audio for. In controlled environments manual will give you more consistent audio as long as the volume of what you’re recording isn’t changing. In run and gun situations where you can’t monitor audio as well or the environment is constantly changing, auto can work better!

Hi! Thanks very much, this is really helpful. I am so new to the R6 (just bought one) and to filming with it. I had a canon 200d and used to film with it. It has an ON, OFF, and VIDEO button. Intuitively, I go to the VIDEO button to shoot, even if my other dial is set on AV (I mostly shoot on AV mode). Now the question with the R6. When shooting videos, do I stay on the video mode and then press the red button for video, or can I stay on AV mode and simply press the red (video) button to shoot video. I know it might be a stupid question but there it is. Thanks again!

Nice Tutorial and some neat tips. But why would you recommend FHD on a semi-professional - professional camera which costs a ton of money and is definitely made for 4K content. If you'd planned on producing FHD content, why would you pick this expensive camera?
@KatelynJames3 жыл бұрын
This video was speaking to photographers who already own this camera (for photography) but want to dabble in video! Most people in that scenario wouldn't benefit from any of the advantages of 4K but would struggle with the large 4K files that are difficult to edit. -Tyler

This is really helpful…I have been shooting in R6 since a month now and I had RP before. There is one challenge I face when my lens is in Auto focus mode is that I hear a ‘tick tick ‘ sound which is annoying. If it’s a voice over video that can be muted while editing but if there is dialogues then it’s difficult to get rid of it. This issue is not there when I shoot in manual focus mode. Do you have any suggestion for this?
@KatelynJames2 жыл бұрын
The sound you're hearing is the AF motor in your lens. Some lenses are quieter than others but there will always be some noise if you're using the internal mic or even an on camera mic. The solution would be to either shoot with manual focus like you mentioned or use a microphone that's not on camera for anything where you need good audio. I highly suggest the Tascam DR-10L as a great affordable lav mic system! amzn.to/2zr2W0Q

It really just depends on how comfortable you are working with log footage. C-log 3 is a fantastic addition to this camera for anyone who understands the benefits of shooting log. Hey Tyler, do you use an external monitor with your r6? I tried to use just a normal external monitor and then my screen turned off…. So I spoke to canon because even my R would still have the back screen on with an external and that of course means I could use the epic af. When the r6 screen turns off y can’t use the epic af….which basically makes the af totally redundant… so my question is, do you use an external screen and if so, what do you use? I’m looking at the ninja v but I don’t know if I can use the af on the ninjas screen?
@KatelynJames2 жыл бұрын
Hey Justin! Tyler here... I honestly don't shoot enough video on the R6 to answer this question. I do know that with the Ninja V you can shoot 10 bit 4:2:2 on the R so I would imagine there is some work around for the screen issue? Sorry I can't be more helpful!
