Hey I live near tulalip too! (Seattle - whoot whoot!) That’s funny - because years ago, a family friend used to be a card dealer at the casino- and I guess every time a deck is used - it is immediately disposed of (?! What a waste right?!?!) but this was YEARS ago! And going through storage few weeks ago - I found a moving box 📦 filled with tons and tons of smaller boxes that were each packed with 8-12 brand new (aka: one and done!) tulalip playing cards - also with the center drilled and hollowed out. My mind was blown with what the heck to do with it all?! But now - thank to you - I am excited to get my hands on a couple packs and get to work!!!! Thanks for sharing ! Exciting to check out your past uploads and even more excited for future uploads to come - since I’m officially now subscribed! After all, gotta support our fellow crafters.... and most importantly , its not everyday I meet any local like minded individuals or even know WHO (and not WHAT.... lol) Tim Holtz is. Haha. Sorry for long comment . Just wanted to say thanks again! And let me know if you need anymore cards ?! Lol. Take care! Xx ♥️

I have to say, I’ve watched hundreds of videos on junk journaling now, and started my own 2 weeks ago. Everyone seems to have Tim’s distressing ink! Yet one lady I watched used shoe polish! In the bottle with a sponge! It cost me $6 here in Australia, and I swear by it! And it’s cheap! And works and you get a lot more for your money. But I love your playing card idea! That’s amazing! I love watching everyone’s little tricks on using things around the house to use

You are incredibly clever, and it’s always nice to watch another avid crafter, who doesn’t always have a lot of things (like myself) And I wish we could post photos in comments, so I could show you the show polish and the effect! P.S I love tea/coffee dying paper also! Getting a lot of new pages together to do today.

I'm an English teacher (totally hear you about using our own money)...instead of putting the paper over the cards, perhaps you could distress the face of the card with a sanding block ($1 at the Dollar store), which lifts the coating off as well as the ink (to whatever degree you want). Then students could actually write right over the face on the card. Just an idea :)
@mcatyoung4 жыл бұрын
I just watched another video that showed sanding the card face. I think using the queen of hearts and putting the stamp on it directly would be cute.

Cute. Set a side a day with a friend to go with you to thrift store, a play date so kids can mingle. Bring your own supplies. I went to Goodwill on MLK day & got 1/2 off 12 ink pads (stamping up & about 30 stamps & pretty scrapbook paper and many items for $18!! Thanks for being a teacher :))

These are so fun, Kate! Thanks for sharing them! I so agree with you. The making of videos is hobby number two! I don't do any editing to mine. Not because I don't want to. I just don't know how. You said you film and edit on your phone. I film on my phone too. Can you tell me if you use a certain app to edit, please? I really need to learn more about the editing aspect. Thanks for any help you can lend! ❤️

Use your brayer to roll on your cards when using wet glue. Roll the unglued side first. Then roll over the wet side, don't press to hard on wet side, but as hard as you want on dry side. It helps to spread the glue to the edge of the cards.

Really neat stuff, Kate, I’m glad you turned the camera on! Question: what is the “sanding” you reference about the playing cards?
@KatetheskateStudio6 жыл бұрын
Just sand a little bit with sand paper or an emery board or nail file to create a rough surface for the glue to adhere better.

My question, is, why use the playing cards if you are covering the entire face of the card. Why not just use a piece of chipboard or cereal box and save the playing cards for something that you could make that would showcase the face of the cards. Just asking, not criticizing. Maybe I’m missing the point to using them.
@KatetheskateStudio4 жыл бұрын
Just because I have a ton. Use what you have, you know? Also you can keep part of the card showing.
