Kathakku Pinnil is a 1987 Indian Malayalam film, directed by KG George and produced by Mathew Paulose. The film stars Mammootty, Devi Lalitha, Lalu Alex and Jagathy Sreekumar in lead roles. The film had musical score by Ouseppachan.
The film talks about the story of Vanitha, a young lady trapped by the society into doing a crime she had no choice but to do. Mr. Nair(Mammooty) is a famous scriptwriter for Theatre productions. He is married to Malathi(Kalaranjini) and has a daughter with her. Mr. Nair is staying alone at a house, trying to come up with a new idea for a play for Pillai(Nedumudi Venu) , owner of Gayathri Theatres.
One night, Vanitha, a beautiful woman clad in a light blue saree runs into his home. She seems to be running from something or someone and is visibly scared. Vanitha begs him to let her stay for the night. She promises to go the next morning. He agrees to her, tired of seeing her beg and provides her with a bed to stay. The next morning, Nair is furious seeing that she has not left. She talks to him about her life and he, being the scriptwriter he is listens with rapt attention. Slowly, they get to know each other.
She tells him her life story.
She he talks about how she used to live in the lap of luxury with her family. Her father, a business man,married a Christian lady against his families wishes. They have two children- Vanitha and her brother( Ganesh Kumar). Both are studying. Their fathers business goes bankrupt and the troubles at home start. Unable to handle the pressure, her brother turns to drugs. She turns to writing and poems. One day, her mother walks into their home with a stranger who she claims is the person who provides for them. Angry at her, her father slaps her. She walks out with the stranger,vowing never to return. On the third day of her mother leaving, her father is found dead. He committed suicide. Under pressure to earn for themselves, Vanitha goes to meet Palodan( Soman) who she remembers used to take money from her father. She is interested to take a job at the local bank. Palodan agrees,but expects return favors from her. Angered, she walks out.
They lose their home to debtors of her father. She starts staying at a woman's hostel and her brother stays with a friend. There she finds a friend, Geetha and also meets her cousin Priyadarshan( Lalu Alex). He is a bar singer at Hotel Blue Moon, owned by both Palodan and a the character player by Thilakan. Unable to pay rent at the woman's hostel, she finally ends up staying at the hotel. In the meantime, she and Priyan get closer. They decide to elope but are caught by the hotel employees. Priyan is beat unconscious and taken away in a police jeep. She sees all this from the window of the room she is kept locked. That night, Palodan tries to rape her and she runs out after stabbing him. That is when she runs into Nair's home. Mr.Nair decides to help out Vanitha by searching if Palodan died from her stabs. He searches for information, attracting attention to himself in the process. Palodan and Co. corner him in a room, but let him go on the condition that his name not be tarnished. In the meantime, Malathi and their daughter arrive at the house Nair is staying. She sees Vanitha's shadow and makes a big ruckus about it.She goes to meet Pillai and they together come to search for the mysterious woman and her shadow. At that moment, Nair arrives and asks where Vanitha is. Malathi takes it that he is cheating on her, but he doesn't heed it.
He goes to search for her, finally ending up in front of Hotel Blue Moon. The hotel people come searching for Vanitha at Gayathri Theatres, leading to more issues at home for Nair.
They return dejectedly to the hotel and tasks Priyan to search for her. He finds her and after convincing her to come with him, takes her to the Hotel. Nair sees this and tries to stop them, but he is no match for the hotel employees.There, Palodan and Co. try to forcefully strip her and she tries to jump from the building. In a fit of anger and in self defense, Vanitha kills Priyan. The others run away and at this time, Nair arrives with the police. Vanitha surrenders. He writes this story into a successful Theatre production, ending it with a happy note of how she is acquitted of all charges.
But it is shown that life is not always full of happy endings, as she is charged with murder and is sentenced to life in jail.

കുറച്ച സിനിമകൾ ഉള്ളു എങ്കിലെയും കെ.ജി ജോർജ് സാറിന്റെ മിക്ക ഫിലിംസ് അതീവ മനോഹരങ്ങളണ്. അതിലെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ അത്രക് ശക്തമാന്നു. തീർച്ചയായും കണ്ടിരിക്കേണ്ട ഫിലിംസ്. കഥക് പിന്നിൽ , മറ്റൊരാൾ , കോലങ്ങൾ , ആദാമിന്റെ വാരിയെല്ല് ... ഒറ്റവാക്കിൽ പറഞ്ഞാൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു ജീനിയസ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ശരിക്ക് ഉപയോകിക്കാൻ മലയാള ഇന്ടസ്ട്രിക് പറ്റിയില്ല തോന്നുന്നു.

ഒരു കാലത്ത് മലയാള സിനിമയിലെ ന്യൂ ജനറേഷൻ തരംഗം തുടങ്ങി വച്ചത് ഇദ്ദേഹം ആയിരുന്നു. അന്നത്തെ LJP യും ആഷിക് അബുവും വി.കെ.പ്രകാശും എല്ലാം കെ.ജി.ജോർജ്ജ് സർ ആണ്.നന്മ മരങ്ങളും ക്ളീഷേ കഥകളും അടക്കി വാണിരുന്ന മലയാള സിനിമയിൽ വ്യത്യസ്ത മായ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളും ഡാർക്ക് shade ഉള്ള നായക കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെയും ഒക്കെ അക്കാലത്തു കൊണ്ടു വന്ന സംവിധായകരിൽ പ്രമുഖൻ.ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെ പോലെ പത്മരാജൻ, ഭരതൻ അരവിന്ദൻ എല്ലാം ആ ഗണത്തിൽ പെടും.

K G George എന്ന കലാകാരൻ സമൂഹത്തെ ക്കുറിച്ച്, മനുഷ്യാവസ്ഥകളെക്കുറിച്ച്, ജീവിതപരിസരങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് ആഴത്തിൽ പഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. തന്നെ അലോസരപ്പെടുത്തിയ യാഥാർത്ഥ്യങ്ങൾ ക്കെതിരെ അദ്ദേഹം ശക്തമായി പ്രതികരിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ് ഈ സിനിമ യിലൂടെ. തീർച്ചയായും കണ്ടിരിക്കേണ്ട ഒരു സിനിമയാണ് ഇത്. @Geo Jose ഒരു വിരോധവും ഇല്ല.. കുട്ടിക്കാലത്ത് ഞാൻ കണ്ട മമ്മൂട്ടി പടങ്ങളിൽ മമ്മൂട്ടി,നായികയെ പ്രേമിച്ചു കെട്ടുകയും ഒരു കുട്ടി( മിക്കവാറും ബേബി ശാലിനി,ശോഭന ആണേൽ പ്രസവത്തോടെ മരിക്കും) എന്നിട്ട് വില്ലൻ മാർ വന്നു ഭാര്യ യെ rape ചെയ്യും..നായകനെ അടിച്ചിടും.. പിന്നെ മമ്മൂട്ടി പ്രതികാരം.. സുഹാസിനി നായികയാണെൻകിൽ .. മമ്മൂട്ടി അടുത്തൂടെ പോയാൽ മതി.. pregnant ആവാൻ.. അങ്ങനെ .. എൻതോ.. സത്യം പറഞ്ഞാൽ പേടിയായിരുന്നു ആ scenes എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു മനസ്സിൽ വേദനയായിരുന്നു.. തൂവാനത്തുമ്പികൾ,അഹം എല്ലാം ഇപ്പഴാ ശരിക്കും മനസ്സിലായത്..

ചിലരുടെ കഥ ഇങ്ങനെയാണ് ദൂരെ ഒരു വെളിച്ചമുണ്ടെന്നോർത്ത് ജീവിക്കും പക്ഷെ നമ്മൾ നടന്നടുക്കുന്തോറും ആ വെളിച്ചം ദൂരെ ദൂരെയായിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കും....... ഒടുവിൽ ആ വെളിച്ചമേൽക്കാൻ ഭാഗ്യമില്ലാത്ത യാത്രയിലെവിടെയോ മരണത്തിലേക്കും.....ദുരന്തങ്ങളുടെ ഘോഷയാത്രയാണ് ചിലരുടെ ജീവിതം 😞

'കഥയ്ക്ക് പിന്നിൽ' എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ വഴിത്തിരിവ് രസകരമാണ്, നാടകകൃത്തായ മമ്മൂട്ടിക്ക്, നാടകരചനയ്ക്ക് ഇടയിൽ വാടകവീട്ടിൽ ഒറ്റയ്ക്കുള്ള ജീവിതം വിരസമായി തോന്നുകയും ലൈംഗിക അഭിനിവേശം ഉണ്ടാവുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. മമ്മൂട്ടി ഇത് നാടക ട്രൂപ്പിലെ നടനായ ജഗതി ശ്രീകുമാറിനോട് പറയുകയും, ജഗതി, മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ ലൈംഗിക ദാഹം തീർക്കാൻ ഒരു പെണ്ണിനെ ഒപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവരാമെന്ന് ഉറപ്പ് കൊടുത്ത് പോവുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. സെക്സിൽ ഏർപ്പെടാൻ പെണ്ണിനെ പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്ക്, ഓടിക്കിതച്ചെത്തുന്ന സുന്ദരിയായ ദേവിലളിതയെ തനിക്കൊപ്പം കിടക്കപങ്കിടാൻ ജഗതി അയച്ച പെണ്ണായിരിക്കും എന്ന് കരുതി കുളിച്ചു വൃത്തിയായി വരാൻ തോർത്തും സോപ്പും കൊടുക്കുന്ന മമ്മൂട്ടിയോട് താൻ ഒരു വേശ്യ അല്ലെന്നും ഒരു ചതിയിൽ നിന്ന് ജീവനും കൊണ്ട് ആ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് ഓടിക്കയറിയതാണെന്നും ദേവി ലളിത പറയുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ മമ്മൂട്ടി, ദേവി ലളിതയ്ക്ക് അഭയം കൊടുക്കുകയും അവളുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ എന്താണ് സംഭവിച്ചത് എന്ന് അറിയുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. യുവാക്കളെ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് സുന്ദരികളായ യുവതികളെ, പ്രണയം നടിച്ച് വശത്താക്കി അവരെ പല ബിസിനസ്സുകാർക്കും കാഴ്ച്ച വച്ച് ലൈംഗികമായി ചൂഷണം ചെയ്യുന്ന സെക്സ് റാക്കറ്റ് മാഫിയയെ പറ്റിയായിരുന്നു ഈ സിനിമ. അതും 1987ൽ, ഇപ്പോഴും ആ സബ്ജെക്ടിന്റെ Social substantial relevance ഒന്ന് ചിന്തിച്ചു നോക്കൂ. സിനിമ ഏതാണ്ട് 32 വർഷം മുൻപ് റിലീസ് ആയതാണ്. KG ജോര്‍ജ്ജ് ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് പൊതുവേയുള്ള നിലവാരമേന്മ ഈ ചിത്രത്തിനുമുണ്ട്. ആകര്‍ഷകമായി വികസിച്ചുവരുന്ന കഥാപുരോഗതി അവയുടെ പ്രത്യേകതയാണല്ലോ. അവസാനം കഥയും സത്യവും തമ്മിലുള്ള വ്യത്യാസം കാണിക്കാന്‍ ആ നാടകസന്ദര്‍ഭം ഒരുക്കിയത് അതിമനോഹരമായി. . ലാലുഅലെക്സിന്‍റെ പഴയ മുഖം രസകരമായിരിക്കുന്നു. നെടുമുടിയും തിലകനും സോമനും തങ്ങളുടെ ചെറുറോളുകള്‍ നന്നാക്കി. ജഗതി തന്റെ അഭിനയമികവിന്‍റെ ശൈശവാവസ്ഥയിലാണ് ഈ ചിത്രത്തില്‍. . പാട്ട് നന്നായിട്ടില്ല.
