It's so interesting to watch behind the scene of this Katharine Hepburn interview. Thank you for uploading it

A true star of stage and screen! Hepburn's entire approach to show business and life is wrapped up in one throw-away line, 4:00, " Don't tell me what's wrong. Just fix it. " The sheer audacity of this statement isn't lost on Cavett, whose spontaneous laugh is hilarious! And then, Hepburn felt comfortable enough with Cavett to simply say at 5:02, " Why don't they just start? Have they started? " What followed was two hours of insightful and delightful conversation!

This behind -the -scenes clip is wonderful! Hepburn obviously took to Cavett, :35 ( " You look nice. " ) It's important to remember that she had been in the business since 1931, ( ! ) and wanted to present herself well on her first foray into television. She is not being critical but simply asking to be deferred to as a true professional would do. It's fun watching the stage crew flit around her like cautious butterflies to a flower!

I'm trying to agree with you. Look, there's such a thing as being a DIVA. THIS is "Diva" and it's not attractive. Love her movies, stilted in character development, would HATE having dinner with her.

Oh wow - all these people criticizing her and saying she was insufferable and intolerable. She was one of the greatest movie stars EVER and, as she'd constantly kept her life very private and never been on TV until this point, she wanted this to be right for her. Imagine Marilyn Monroe in her first TV appearance - same generation. She needed to be comfortable. I don't find this awkward at all - she just wanted it to be right. People here forget that, if someone had said something wrong, she would have walked (as would any great actor) but she seemed to be enjoying it and, as she got on well with Dick, went ahead with it. Remember who she had worked with in the past and were her friends

A true artist at work. Such a pleasure to watch! And Cavett is an equally capable host. Letterman or Keno would've interrupted the conversation with something stupid. I wish I were born in the time of the Dick Cavett Show ❤️

You can see the true face of a person by watching how they behave among "less important" people. Dick is very polite as always. Amazing interviewer. Miss Hepburn acts like a star who is faded and wants to feel important again.

have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like the other Cavett ones.

Joan Crawford was the polar opposite in every way during interviews. She was so regal and mannered. And she only finished the 6th grade whereas Katharine had a pretty privileged life. That’s pretty telling on how they both treated staff. Completely different
@Omnicient.

With Crawford we tended to get a performance in her interviews so we rarely saw the real person. Kate wouldn't care too much about how she's coming across only that people are entertained or feel they're listening to something worth listening to and with Bette Davis what you saw was generally what was there. They all share the narcissism and entitled personality traits though in varying ways. Lauran Bacall was another! We know such psychologies in our own lives too.

Could they design a set worse than this?! Never have columns in a set as it fragments the conversations visually. The lighting was also too bright and to top it off Dick wears white trousers/white socks/white shoes which will blast on tv screens and then those endless booms in shot!
