We are thrilled to welcome Katherine May to the Skylark virtual author series! Katherine is the author of Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times - and never was there a more timely book published. Several of us have been lucky enough to have already read it, we all fell head over heels in love with it. It’s a deeply personal, quietly beautiful book, written with grace and immense thoughtfulness. We all go through difficult times; by mulling over her responses to her own misfortunes, the author offers some insight as to how we might all think differently about low points in our lives. It’s an instructive, inspiring, and ultimately profoundly hopeful book.

This interview is wonderful. Alex was such a great interviewer and Katherine a warm and accommodating interviewee. It felt like a cosy chat around a winter fire between friends. I am in the process of reading this glorious book. On almost every page is an example of something so intimately familiar and yet so rarely expressed it is breathtaking. I have noted the periods of wintering in my own life, though never put a name to them, just recognised their inevitable yet essential power to cleanse and reframe. The Mary Oliver references were great. I have long loved her prayerful attention too. Thank you. Karen.

Speaking of reading children's books at this time in our lives, I'm rereading Moominland Midwinter by Tove Jansson...it's perfect. Her humor very tongue in cheek.
