１９８８年６月のある夜、上野の東京文化会館の５階席のこのコンサート会場にいました。 プラシドドミンゴ全く知らなかったのですが、当時から日本での人気は物凄くてドミンゴが１曲歌い終わる度に女性たちがscreeching! When both Domingo and Battle started dancing the Walz, all the listeners got exciting. celloguy I had no idea he was singing in English and then it hit me just as I was reading your comment. Then I wanted to hear Battle. I couldn’t understand what she was saying either. It just confirms my understanding of operatic singing. Lovely performance nonetheless.

Sorry but to me they sound poorly coupled. It’s like Otello is drowning Desdemona by the sheer volume of his voice and interpolated high notes. Battle is by far the more refined here despite her well known mannerisms.

I agree. There’s a huge gap between the sizes of their voices. Battle is a light lyric soprano while Domingo sounds too dark and heavy. I think he’s fine in lyric repertoires and he’s always very emotional in his singing, but Battle is way more “gentle” and as a result they sound poorly coupled indeed.
