log16/log 7 and ln16/ln7 would be change of base formula, which allows you to plug these values in the calculator since there's a function for common log and natural log (ln), not a critic or anything I love your attempt as a non math person, but you would write it has 2* sin 60 and 2* cos 60. The theta angle always goes after the trig identity. So sin (theta) etc.. That problem was a 30,60,90 triangle , so you can use the trick to find the sides.

For the polar coordinates example, some helpful formulas are x = r * cos(theta) and y = r * sin(theta) with theta as radians. These formulas come from the rectangular to polar conversion in which r^2 = x^2 + y^2, Pythagorean theorem, and arctan(y/x) = theta, since rectangular coordinates are the sides of a right triangle.

For the polar coordinates to rectangular coordinates problem...you CAN use the ratios for the 30-60-90 triangle...your hypotenuse is 2...the short leg (opposite the 30 degree angle) is half of the hypotenuse...and the long leg (opposite the 60 degree angle) is sqrt3 times the length of the short leg...which give you the correct answers.

Hi Kathleen, loving your videos, thank you! Question: do we hv to memorize formulae for double angle, addition, complementary identities etc in trig? In a level exam students are given formula list and just hv to know how to use them. Are we given any formulae in praxis?

Thank you so much! This playlist is all we have for anything close to 5161. However, I recommend going to the ETS site and downloading the study resources (WORD) document. It is at the top of this page www.ets.org/praxis/prepare/materials/5161. In it are all the skills and Khan academy videos that go with each skill. Hope that helps and thank you for watching.

Might be helpful to note that log 7^x = xlog7 ... 7^x =16... take log or ln of both sides ... log 7^x = log 16 ... xlog7 = log 16 ...x= log16/log7 ... works exactly the same with natural log (ln).

In question 5, the solution was correct but the configuration of the equations for x and y were a little off. The Cos or Sin precedes the angle and not the value of the radius

Love these videos, I'm a bit confused on the 5th problem as when I use the online calculators (desmos or geogabra - which I searched online graphing) and I put in 60sin2 it gives me 54.xxxx vs 1 regardless of whether I put in (60sin)2 or *2 or no parenthesis......what am I doing wrong? if I put it in reverse I get a negative number (sin60 )= −0.304810621102 & of course multiplying that by 2 won't give me anything close to 1. It is probably something simple, but can you or someone help?

For the polar coordinates, to convert them to rectangular coordinates, you can just use these formulas: x = r•cos(theta) y = r•sin(theta) This would be the quickest way. But your explanation is really great: you just derived the formulas to convert between polar and rectangular coordinates =)

I like that she reiterates it. It helps people who are in the content area to be nice when she does not use the correct vocab. Regardless of making errors she is just being up front with the viewers. And I agree mistakes are how we learn.
