10 years later I saw her live in Lucia at the Opera of Nice, France. It was fantastic, one of the best live performances that I've seen. Thank you Ms. Lewek.

Impresionante descubrir de una voz diferente, de alguien que se entrega por completo al personaje según su sentir y su visión, sin importarle las inútiles convenciones superficiales. Es jóven en su aparición, jóven en el sentido de una Lucia actualizada, con toda la pasión y presencia del siglo XXI. Y con personalidad, no fingida. Todo eso sobre una base sólida de canto y personificación. Un bellísimo descubrimiento (entre tanto cantante automatizado y tipicamente "operistico" sin casi nada de originalidad, es como una bocanada de aire fresco). GRACIAS.

This is my FAVORITE interpretation of this aria. Lucia is supposed to be an absolute lunatic and Kathryn’s voice foots the bill perfectly - unique timbre, agility, and that high E! Wow!! Not to mention her acting chops which greatly add to the performance (to hell with “toning down for the competition”).

Lucia is my favorite opera. It's quite dramatic as we all know. Miss Lewek is like Dessay, using her acting chops as actress. LOVE the interpolated high E in the end. She is going to be a superb coloratura soprano with a lot to offer. Congrats to her. 3rd place is nothing to sneeze at. WE'll be watching this lady and her career.

She isn't overacting at all. She's in character. And the portamenti and interpolated high notes--are standard fare for the virtuosic music of Donizetti. Now the high E-natural at the very end isn't something we're used to hearing at the end of this aria. But I don't mind it at all. In fact, upon further listening, I've grown to like it. She sings this aria with gorgeous tone, formidable technique, and more emotion than almost any other soprano, including Sutherland, I've ever heard.

Kathryn is an underrated talent. Her voice is bold and impactful and agile and I love how she uses it unapologetically. Of course people would accuse her of overacting; most contemporary artists have a flat and wooden affect.

FaustinaBordoni She's in character....as La Gioconda in Act 4. She has a great voice and she's definitely a better musician than a lot of coloratura sopranos, but there has got to be a different way to communicate the character of Lucia without all those glottal attacks and jazz hands.

I just love those glottal attacks and I find her vocal interpretation extremely exciting. If there is one thing I hate it is anonymous white voiced soprano coloraturas. This is an individual timbre that one recognize immediately

Kathryn Lewek would have been one of the greats in the time of this kind of soprano singing but not today the public prefers to listen to the more gentle sopranos like Jackie Evancho and Amira Willighagen and of course Emanne Beasha who is going to be the greatest of them all. I really find it disgusting that they body-shamed this fantasticly talented lady and I personally wish Kathryn Lewek all the success that she has worked so hard for.

I prefer to defer. A quick look at the top sopranos these days like Lisette Oropesa, Pretty Yende and you can conclude that its not entirely the public's fault but their management agency for the lack of promotion.

One could say that she was overacting, sure. But let's face it, Lucia ain't right in the head, even at the beginning. Sills made a point that Lucia had a screw loose long before the mad scene...she was seeing ghosts and such at the fountain. I think Lewek sang brilliantly, although I was not prepared for that interpolated high E.

Caprino entails failure to alternate between pitches (vibrato), resulting in a rapid repition of a single pitch. This singer has no such problem.

Come on, she is just doing too much Virtuosity must stay in situation, here the effects and high notes she's adding are juste altering Donizetti's melody and don't bring anything to the character. Lucia in this scene is supposed to be an insouciant young girl in love, not a crazy shrew during an hysteria crisis

Oh my god ... At the beginning i said "She really has a beautiful voice ...." But finally she screams and she is just frightening. She just looks like the horrible Bellatrix Lestrange in the saga Harry Potter ... Lucia isn't supposed to be a madwoman, totally hysterical. Evidently, Lewek wants to leave her mark on opera world but she's just ridiculous. With a character like Lucia, emotion must be readable in the sight. Here, none emotion, just hysteria. Horrible performance crowned by an outrageous end. She's impressive, but she overacts, really. To conclude : wonderful voice but too much hysteria

I can't take this guy's rudeness, she's fine here considering that she performed this many years ago, I hope you saw her killing the Queen of the Night role, she has greater bel canto and better acting now.
