The best singing performance I've EVER heard. Staging sucks.

I wonder who is the sadist director who made her perform all of this while hunching down, having her weighing unnecessarily on her diaphragm and hindering her movement, all for the sake of a pretty silly characterization choice (i.e. having the Queen be an old hag)

My god her diction is outstanding. Only Diana damrau does it this good.

So terrific! The first section is so expressive you'd think it's a heavier lyric voice because there's no sign of weakness or breathiness you'd expect from a high coloratura.

I was highly doubtful of this comment, as I’m sure everyone has seen Diana Damrau’s rendition, but damn... after watching, all I can say now is that if it isn’t better than Diana’s, it is certainly on par. Nothing less

How amazing! Are my ears making things up or does she bring completely different colors to this than what I am used to? 🤔 To me she sounds a bit different from all the amazing queens before her. Bravo!

Yes, there are different colors, because she is using different voices....she's changing her vocal production for different parts of her range. That's what I hear, anyway.

Probably the most unique interpretation of the Queen of the Night that I’ve seen. Portraying her as a decrepit old lady (though very possibly putting on an act) rather than a terrifying or majestic beauty is reminiscent of the Queen from Snow White.

French productions are known to make modern productions of opera that frankly speaking not understandable. Just look at Sabine Devieilhe production in this aria and you will see what i mean
@YAM4663 жыл бұрын
I think the symbolism here is that Tamino is basically a blank slate out of which the Queen may do whatever she pleases. That's why she's bringing him military gear. She's dressing him to fight her war.

Idiots i would think. Everything has to have a story behind it nowadays. Every piece of clothing and every stick that's sticking out of the floor has a hidden meaning and must tell a story. Where is the elegace of beautiful costumes that stand out. Where is the queen in her gown with stones that glitter like starlight and her crown adorning her head like a moon in the night. Where is the prince that saves the princess with sword drawn and clothes that tell of his standing. Not a story told about the things on stage. But the things that help tell the tale.

@luceafarul5794 жыл бұрын
Much better than Moser, notice here, even with dramatic flare she knows to control her vibratos to not make it wide or wobbly so they won’t compromise tonality or make her voice shriek, and her legatos are connected, as they should be-she does not break up legatos by stopping or taking breaths in between like Moser does. Singing has IMPROVED since the early 20th century people, stop living in the past.
@wermachbanks45993 жыл бұрын

@@wermachbanks4599 if you like wide wobbly singing just for the sake of being loud then feel free to keep listening to her
@davidmuller99383 жыл бұрын
@@luceafarul579 she is not wobbly she has an icy, big tone, typical German singer not boring crap Italian-type. Lewek is extraordinary but she was clearly inspired by Moser, too.
@luceafarul5793 жыл бұрын
@@davidmuller9938 I’ve listened to plenty of german opera singers who are not wobbly like Moser was in queen of night, and moser herself isn’t wobbly in everything she sings, but in queen of night, which requires a mozartian technique in which she’s just not one of the best ones, she is wobbly. There are German Mozartian singers who can sing mozart overall better than her, such as diana damrau. Has nothing to do with her “icy tone” I’m not talking about “tone” but the evenness of her vibrato and smoothness of her legato. Her staccato in the second aria for example is exemplary. And I think honestly that’s how she became such a famous queen of the night-people just paid attention to those famous staccato in the more famous second aria and didn’t really care about much else. Just like many opera fans only care about how loud you sound in an opera house especially for those famous high notes and virtually nothing else.
