Sure it was a little too far. But the consequences suffered are grotesquely disproportionate when any context-sensitive person could see this wasn't meant as a serious suggestion of a course of action to be taken, but rather an expression of feeling of disapproval.
@mike4ty45 жыл бұрын
@@rakshith7002 I disagree, gravely. I hope and/or would help to make things improve for her if I could. I would give aid and comfort if I had some to give. It's high, high past time for it to end and she be dealt back into the game. The truth is that people have a terrible sense of all the following: contextuality, reasoning, and scale (both of claimed offence, and of proper consequences therefor). It was a gaffe, yeah, maybe point it out, then move on and let he be again and have a life again. Seriously, the amount of things we impose gravity on is immeasurably far beyond the pale and we need to really cut it the fuck back and do things more one-on-one. Less punishment for others and more learning to fortify ourselves.
@mike4ty45 жыл бұрын
@@rakshith7002 Yeah, I think that it should have been taken not as nothing but also not as greatly as it was, because to me when I saw it first off _with the context_ I thought "yeah, this is a joke. A bit off-color, maybe, but I'd seriously not think she was really going to try and do that, given the context it was done in." I clearly realized it was a political 'toon, not a statement of proposed action. That's why I said a lot of people lack a sense of contextuality. I didn't find it a _funny_ joke, though - by the way - it didn't elicit a chuckle. What I'm saying is I understood what it was _meant_ to be, at the moment when it came to my attention. On the other hand, if she had sent out a tweet directly to the President's Twitter account with that picture, and no comments, perhaps maybe a stronger reaction would have been warranted. Having the court investigate it was reasonable, just to be sure. The court, though, vindicated the reasoning just mentioned. I think prospective future employers/others should, from now on, honor that court's findings. Yes, it's a gaffe. Yes, I stand 100% by that statement. Perhaps a bit more than most, but that it should have such _enduring_ consequences for her _entire life_ is something I would 100%, thoroughly, reject. Far too much has such enduring consequences than should. Much more should be absolutely temporary, and I am absloutely going to stand by that opinion, everywhere, no matter who refuses to respect it. They can disrespect whatever they want, and I won't care, it's just an opinion. It's called holding a TRULY unpopular and politically incorrect opinion. Deal with it. And an ordinary person should have gotten, obviously, far far _less_ . Probably an "uggh" from whomever they showed the picture to with suitably adequate context markers for their situation, since that'd be the extent of their "ordinary" reach.
@mike4ty45 жыл бұрын
@@rakshith7002 I didn't know she didn't expect anyone to see it. Moreover, you're missing the point. The point is that they called an investigation, it was investigated, and the result of that investigation was to not bring charges. Had this been ACTUALLY a threat, charges would be brought because it's a crime to threaten the President (for real). I'm simply taking, to the logical extreme, the sentiment I saw voiced in many posts given in the heat of the controversy which was to the effect of "let's see how she fares in real court, instead of the 'court of public opinion'". And I'm saying that, now that "real court" has finished its work, that it is time for the "court of public opinion" to get in line and _un-ruin_ her _life_ , because this does NOT deserve a LIFETIME consequence of this severity. I believe in keeping consequences for wrongdoing strictly time-limited and/or otherwise negotiable or forgiveable/rescindable - _not_ absent - except in the most grievous of cases, for the simple fact that humans are human and the level of things we've attached such horrifying consequence to is far beyond the pale - another example is Justine Sacco, and there's a TEDTalk on KZbin about this type of thing, how much and how severe "mob justice" has come thanks to the internet. And I hate to say it, but you're being a little mob here. I only wish I could be in charge of hiring her again at Hollywood and help her put this all behind as it rightfully should be, by a _logically extreme_ interpretation of the principle just cited. After all, if we're going to talk about how we should have only _investigated_ Kavanaugh, say, and not found him guilty, on the spot, of a crime, if we want to both (as I believe we should) accept that we should hear out women sincerely (imo the real or best meaning of "Believe Women," and I know people - women, too - who both use that slogan _and_ agree with my interpretation thereof) _and_ not just proclaim "guilty before conviction" of those _accused_ of sexual assaults to support principled justice that also takes account of the fact false or unsubstantiable claims _do_ occur (whether it's 80% or 8% doesn't matter to the _principle_ ), then I believe in consistently applying that same system here as well. On the other hand, I believe this is degenerating and will simply degenerate into a "yes!" "no!" "yes!" "no!" round-about, assertion-making piss match, and I don't think that's going to be very useful here. And that's because we draw our rules from two fundamentally different books of _axioms_ , and axioms, by definition, are not things that are amenable to proof or disproof.
