Hi, I'm Kathy, owner, designer and creator of Wicked Lady Chains, Chainmaille Jewellery creations.
Here, I attempt to demystify the Kinged Vipera Berus Chainmaille weave. Excuse the quality, the picture isn't the best due to this tutorial being created using a webcam placed in front of me, however I believe it shows the construction of the weave close enough for anyone to be able to follow.
Rings used are all Standard Wire Gauge (SWG) 18g 1/4 (6.6 Inner diameter AR 5.5)

Kathy, do you think this weave would work well with a larger diameter ring with the same AR?
@KathyPridayWickedLadyChains
@KathyPridayWickedLadyChains 7 жыл бұрын
E Salen hi there. Yes, as long as the aspect ratio is the same it will work. Aspect ratio always works. Far better to go by AR than ring gauge and inner diameters, the reason being that all ring manufacturers have their own mandrels. As such, you will always find a slight variance between ring sizes even if they are labelled the same size as another manufacturer's. In most weaves, this tiny difference makes little to no difference. But for sensitive AR weaves like jens pind, or symmetrical allure, it will make all the difference between success or failure.

I would love to do this weave with 5/32" 20g rings, AR of 5, as you do in the smaller chain. You said you used three rings instead of two (would that be Queened instead of Kinged? LOL). I couldn't tell from the video whether you used three rings all the way through (starting with the chain, so it would be 3-in-6 instead of 2-in-4) and also with the flipped up joining rings, or if it alternates somehow?

Thank you SO much for the video. I have loved this weave since the first time and saw it and have wanted to make a bracelet. I made three this week and am working on a fourth! I do have one question. How much does the 2 in 2 weave shorten up. For instance, if I want an 8" bracelet (20.5 mm) how long should my original chain be?
@KathyPridayWickedLadyChains
@KathyPridayWickedLadyChains 7 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I usually make th chain roughly the length of bracelet I need, then add on half that length again. Towards the end of the bracelet, just add on extra 2 in 2 chain as required. But 1 1/2 times the required length usually works out fine.

I might have missed it in the video but how long is the initial 2 in 2 chain? Thank you for the excellent instructions!
@KathyPridayWickedLadyChains
@KathyPridayWickedLadyChains 9 жыл бұрын
Hiyah Gen. You need to make the initial 2 in 2 chain roughly 1 1/2 times longer than the chain length you want. For example if you want an 8" chain, you need to add another 12" on top of that making 20" in length total for an 8" finished chain. However, I wouldn't worry about that, simply make your 2 in 2 chain around 10" long, by the time you reach the end of it, you should have the knack with the weave and adding on extra rings to extend the length is simply adding on extra 2 in 2 chain until you get to the deired finished chain length. Any 2 in 2 chain left over can simply be removed and used in another project. I hope this helps :), If I've confused you even more, just let me know and I'll try and explain further. Good luck and have fun! Happy weaving! :)

I found the video easy to follow but have a question. You started with a ring 18 ga. and 1/4 dia. I want to go to the smaller chain but the first one has an AR of 6.25 and the smaller one works out to an AR of 4.88 for 20 ga. and 5/32 dia. Does the AR not matter that much with this weave? I am wanting to go down to a 24 ga. in gold and silver and am confused about the wide difference in AR ratios.

Kathy, did you mean 18 gauge, 1/4 inch rings? or did you mean some other dimension?
@KathyPridayWickedLadyChains
@KathyPridayWickedLadyChains 8 жыл бұрын
Hiyah Cheryl, the rings used in the tutorial are 18g 1/4 SWG (Standard Wire Gauge). Any rings with an AR of around 5.5 will work for this weave. If you are using AWG (American Wire Gauge system) then the following size will work: 18 AWG (1.02mm) - ID 0.234” (6.0mm)

Wire Gauge divided by Inner Diameter will give you the Aspect Ratio. This means that any rings with exactly the same Aspect Ratio will work for the same weave regardless of what wire gauge they are. However, this also means that if you use a smaller ring, in the same wire gauge, the aspect ratio for those rings will be different and won't work. If you want to go up to a thinner or thicker wire gauge, then just use this formula: Aspect Ratio x Wire Gauge = Inner Diameter of new rings needed So, Aspect Ratio - in this case we know the required Aspect Ratio is 5.5 for this weave to work, times by the gauge of wire you want to use, will give you the inner diameter of the rings you need to use to successfully complete this weave in a smaller size. Did that make any sense?

Hi Emma! No, it shouldn't make any difference, this weave works out exactly the same by following the instructions; regardless of whether right or left handed (one of the very few that are easily translatable both ways). I know I waffle along a lot with the chatter in the video, but if you listen to the instructions as well as watch, you'll see that it is a simple repetitive weave.

+Laurie Poirier I haven't made any for a while Laurie, and I don't have any to hand at the moment to check. I would guess roughly 30-40 rings per inch. It does eat up a lot of rings because of all rings being kinged (doubled) but it builds really fast if that's any consolation :)

However, I've just been looking for them, and they've either closed their Etsy shop, or changed their name. Sorry Magda.
