Even tough language is not finnish, "Suurin" means "The greatest" in Finnish.

Well, it's a kalevalaic spell. So although it's not modern finnish, it's still far from what it should be like.

What do you mean it's not Finnish? I'm Finnish and I can understand it, if I read the lyrics.... Although the pronunciation is a bit weird, this is obviously not sung by a Finnish person ;D

@Χρυσή Πετρίδου Hi, thanks for your question. Yes, I'm a native speaker. First, there's a major typo in the written Finnish lyrics: as currently spelled, "suusi" translates into "your mouth", whereas it should be "susi", a wolf. Second, I don't know why exactly, but the English translations are not at all correct in each verse, perhaps because the original lyrics are old-ish language and quite dialectic. Best I can do to literally translate the different verses is as follows. Mie susi suurin - I, the greatest wolf Suveks syömää - To become a wolf to eat (OR, can also be interpreted as:) To eat for the summer Muut lampaaks lautsan alle - Others, to become sheep under a wooden bunk Mie karhu kankahalla - I, a bear on a pineland Miun veret pieälimmäisinä - My blood above all others Muut lauhtuoh lampahaksi - Others abate to become sheep Minä sudeksi - I, to become a wolf Muut lampahiksi - Others, to become sheep According to one source, this is a confidence empowerment spell/poem.

It can mean "the largest one", but more appropriately it means "the greatest (one)". Not a bad name.

huh. the lyrics definitely look finnish, but this most certainly isn't what finnish sounds like.
@lowkeykarnak2 ай бұрын
It's from an old Sami dialect. The lyrics were taken from a published academic paper on the Sami, in a legitimate and respected academic journal. The spelling is definitely correct. As far as the pronunciation goes, I have no idea whether she's getting down even remotely close, however it's not from carelessness or anything as she put in a lot of effort to get it as close as humanly possible. The language being used here is archaic, and probably not anything even a native Sami speaker with perfect fluency today could nail down absolutely perfectly either. Or at least that's how I understand things. I am going from memory of what is written in the official video's notes.
@AarnivalkeaMusicАй бұрын
@@lowkeykarnak I'm sorry, but your information is way off. The language is 100% Finnish, yet written in Karelian poetry style, similar to Karelian/Finnish national epic , Kalevala and Kanteletar. The words may be archaic and in dialect, yet they are completely intelligible to a native Finnish speaker. Sámi-language is only a distant relative to Finnish and they do not share that much incommon, when it comes to vocabulary. Her pronaunciation is way off and the vocal emphasis is all over the place. No Finn - modern or acharic- would pronounce the words like this. It doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy the song though. As a Finn the way she sings the words just makes me giggle a bit.
