Aww, team KonMari, you've done such a lovely job wit the video! 🥰 So much fun to see myself, sharing some of the gems from 7+ years working as a Professional Organizer, and 4 years of them as a certified KonMari Consultant. I'm so glad I saved up money for the last in-person certification course in November 2019! It was one of the best decisions of my life, because doing this deeply healing work is so meaningful to my clients and me! Hugs, Kati Carrapa

Thanks, Judy! I think the best starts to stories are when someone goes through the challenge by themselves. This way they can relate to their clients. I remember how overwhelmed I felt with all the things I had decluttered in 2016, and where to bring them to. I didn't want to put them in the trash, but I also didn't want to keep all of them. So managing the overwhelm step by step is one of the most important aspects when I work with my clients.

The connection one develops with our things is mostly unknown... until one makes the awareness, then you can really see what creates joy and what creates just emotional distress

Moraima, this is so true! I have a great example for sentimental items. I had a huge pile of my diaries from when I was a teenager and young adult, and when I read through them it just broke my heart the way I tought and felt. Reading through them didn't spark joy, but made me feel all the same trauma again and that's why I decided to let them go. I scanned a few pages of interesing posts but then the rest I recycled.

Good job Kati! What a great story and an inspiration to try and KEEP only things that spark joy! ✨

Exactly! Being mindful and intentional what we keep in our inner and outer life is the key difference from other organizing methods compared to the KonMari Method.

Your advice on asking the client before discarding an item can open up a conversation. The conversation can show the consultant what is valuable and bring attention to the client that the value is gone.

Hi Cedric, It must always be the client to make the decision about what to discard. As a consultant I can only ask what's the story connected to the item, and if there is still a purpose of holding on to it. And sometimes through a conversation (as you mentioned) they realize that the purpose (or value) is already fullfilled or gone, and they are ready to let the item go. And other times they feel and know they must hold on to it a little longer. It's different for each client and also for each item they own.

Thanks Kati. I'm working on decluttering and will be asking myself... does it still bring me joy. I'm going through my jewelry today.
