As a fellow contacts/glasses wearer I just have to say the comments are nailing it with solid advice! Definitely get glasses as well as contacts (you never know when you’ll need them), wear goggles in the pool/ocean, and wash your hands well before putting contacts in but also make sure you get all the soap off!!

Always have disinfecting solution with you and a case in every bag you have. Stores sell packs with large and travel size solution bottles. Yes you always should have a pair of glasses to put on just in case you get an eye infection you can’t wear contacts for awhile. Always wash your hands before touching your contacts, infections can happen just from touching everyday surfaces. Always have spare pair of lenses on you just in case a lens rips

I have a high prescription but I am only wearing glasses for now. But after seeing Katie getting her contacts I will maybe try them too. I was always too scared to try them. But like Jill said, it is good to have glasses too.

I don’t have great eyes either, and i have loved wearing contacts over wearing glasses. I use daily contacts so i don’t have to cleanse them every night, and they’re sooo much more convenient. You put them in in the morning, take them out before bed, and repeat. It’s so simple and you don’t have to worry about keeping up with anything

biggest thing i have learned in my 17 years of wearing contact lenses...do not touch your eyes once you put them in, make sure you clean your hands really good before touching your eyes, and get re-wetting drops if you feel your eyes get dry with them in (or yawn like i do to re-wet them). also be careful when going to the beach or around water because chlorine is not good to get on the contact lenses and beach water is just nasty. biggest thing i will say is just be mindful of what you are about to do and how it might effect your contact lenses. :)

When you have a cold or upper respiratory condition, use you glasses and also, make sure you have some kind of drain cover in the sink where you rinse off your lenses.......those slippery little suckers can slide right down a sink. Glad they are working for you and it should help your headaches. It's nice to know that parents are still raising gentleman like the two that helped with Katie's tire.....very nice.

I’m legally blind without corrective lenses. I started wearing contacts after a kid picked on me in 6th grade for having braces and glasses at the same time. If I could do it as a 12 year old, you’ve got this Katie! I agree with Jill on having the glasses as a backup. I wear mine some days, especially in the spring when my allergies irritate my eyes.

Yes yes yes! Definitly have glasses beside the contacts! Sometimes the air is so dry, my contacts dry out and my eyes start to itch (worst feeling ever). Since we've been working from home a lot, I now wear my glasses almost every day instead of my contacts (because lazy person over here). But I love to switch between them

I have -11.75 and -8,25 and wear gas permeable extended wear fluorine lemses that I almost never have to take out--like once a month and clean weekly. They stopped my myopia from getting worse--before them my RX changed practically monthly. LOVE THEM!!

I’ve worn glasses and/or contacts for 10 years at this point and can’t even read my phone without them 😢 - I second the recommendation of having both glasses and contacts, if you’re eyes are ever sore or dry you always have the glasses as back up

Yes...have glasses available as a backup to contacts . There will be days when you have sore eyes for whatever reason ,and putting contacts in will not be pleasant.

I just had to laugh when you thought that that prescription was bad. Mine is way worse....as for contacts I highly recommend the peroxide based solution because it truly gets the lenses cleans.

Oh yay! Another vlog so soon! I'm REALLY excited for you, Katie. You've got a lot of great adventures coming up! When I broke my wrist when I was 12, I didn't cry either. My mom knew something was wrong though because when she picked me up at my friend's (where I broke it,) I was super pale and was looking like I was going to pass out because it was hurting so bad that I was holding my breath. I've since broken a few other bones too, so I definitely have a high pain tolerance!

Katie and I have opposite contacts prescriptions 😆 My left is -.50 and my right is -.25. That’s fun. I just got contacts a couple years ago, when MY mom thought I was responsible enough. Such a big change to be able to wear sunglasses freely! Also a MUST to have glasses at all times to have a backup if you tear, lose, or just don’t want to wear your contacts!! 💛

It was one of those nights I was super tired and when my head hit the pillow I was wide awake. Saw 2 am come around next thing I knew it was 4:30 am. Has to get better then that. Katie should try Hubble daily contacts. Don’t have to worry about cleaning contacts every night. I love mine!! It costs $30 a month. I changed to daily contacts after I became allergic to contact solution

Make sure Katie also has a regular pair of glasses. There are times when she will not be able to wear contact lenses if she gets sick or her eyes can be irritated by wearing them too long. She will also need glasses in case she gets an infection like pink eye.

Eye prescription goes by .25 Increments. - means you can’t see far away.

My vision is terrible…left eye is -5.00and right eye is -3.50 so Katie your vision isn’t bad at all. I got contacts when I was as 18 and I remember being able to see the end of the balance beam for the first time!

Some advice….do NOT sleep in the contacts. Wash your hands every time you handle them. Clean them correctly. If the contact lens starts to move on your eyes or get caught under your lid…..then when you remove it (bc….how aggravating….), and it makes the pain worse…..call the eye doctor right away for an exam and steroid eye drops and wear your glasses in the meantime. If you start to tear up and itch immediately following putting them in….it’s not normal allergies….you’re sensitive to the contact material (which can happen in some of us eventually….and the doc needs to put you in a contact made of a different material. I’ve been through all these things and now have to wear dailies, and can only wear BioTrue lense brand bc I’m allergic to most of the others. Now I’m a doc myself and will soon be getting lasik 🙏🏻

I’m visually impaired and I was always in doctor offices growing up at this point I can basically be a eye doctor. I have 20/500 not able to be corrected. The other one I can only see movement. So imma go with bad eyes 😂

My eye people let me try out a couple types of contacts to find out which ones felt best for my eyes so I definitely recommend that if they’ll let you! I ended up with acuvue one day moist and I really don’t feel them at all

I have been waring glasses since I was 5 years old. I tried contact lenses for numerous years during high school but it did not work. The first brand I tried made my eyes very red. The other brand of contact lenses it would not stay in my eyes/pop out all the time. The third brand of contact that I tried where to thin, they would split in half while in my eyes or pop out. So I stop wearing contact lenses after high school and only where glasses now. I do have Myopia and Astigmatism in both eyes. My left eye is weaker then my right high. But in the end I think having both contact and glasses is best.

I could see them but I work in the eye field so I know what to look for. I wore contacts for 22 years and glasses for 33 years. I’m 35 years old. I couldn’t see farther than 5 inches from my face. I got LASIK about 8 months ago but contacts are the best. You should ALWAYS have both especially if you have an eye injury or a reason you can’t wear your contacts. Also, you should try daily contacts they are more healthy and don’t have to worry about how old they are. Katie you don’t have that horrible vision at a -0.50 and -0.25. If you are 20/30 you see letters at 20 feet that someone who has 20/20 vision can see at 30 feet. I was 20/800 pre-LASIK without glasses or contacts.

YIKES! 10:23 You may have misunderstood the dance teacher. The teacher may have been referring to a dislocated toe. I'm a martial arts instructor, I also studied dance. if a student breaks a toe or finger the last thing a teacher should tell them is to move it around. If they do, they need to find another profession, especially saying that to young peoples. Even a suspected dislocation I send to emergency.
