Some things are better left unsaid... yeah, no.
It's been years since Katie Nolan and Dan worked together at ESPN and a lot has changed since then... in more ways than either of them ever shared with one another until now. Katie and Dan pull out all the stops in addressing the challenges they've faced since they last saw each other, the immense joy and growth they've found on the other side of pain, and clear the air on how things really went down during the uncertainty of leaving ESPN. This is what friends are for.

You know why Katie’s the best… because who else could draw such a beautiful, vulnerable picture of what it’s like to work in proximity to sports and entertainment and the high stress environment it inevitably becomes, and what’s it’s like to try and find yourself all at the same time. What a high wire act and what a success story she is already. All of that and then to end with “who cares” I loved it. 😅

The frustration in today's society is that when you go through depression often times people see it and immediately are put off by those moments of weakness. So many relationships fail when a partner experiences depression because the partner you're with who's not depressed doesn't always understand. They are both spot on about the massive hit your confidence takes when you're depressed. It is absolutely deflating.

Garbage Time was one of the best sports shows on tv. I wish they could just do that show again and in that format. Acoustic Katie is best version of a Nolan show. If they had it on once a month or once a week, it would be fantastic. I put it up there with Pardon The Interruption. Old segments and episodes are still more entertaining than most of what is on tv today.

Katie said something really important that I didn't know. "You might meet a therapist who sucks." Great advice!

Dan! Were you chopping onions at the studio?! Man, you had me crying as well 😭 I relate to it, with my mom passing away, as well as being laid off twice in 2023. Nothing wrong with saying how you feel, and NOT understanding what exactly it is that you need. At least your spouse seems to understand & support your feelings. My wife isn't good at assisting with my emotions; makes her uncomfortable. I cry in my car....makes me feel better for the moment.

I remember those updates that Katie is talking about around 10 minutes in. As someone who was a regular listener and viewer of Mike'd Up/Mike's On on WFAN, back when it was on FS1 (God, what a disaster that pairing was), every so often, about 20-30 minutes, they would have sports flashes giving you some of the latest headlines. And one of the anchors who became well regarded within Mongo Nation (what Francesa fans call ourselves), was Julie Stewart-Binks, whom I believe has gone on to become good friends with Kaite.

Also, since the topic came up, I don't think something like a live game of baseball was a good fit for her skillset. I feel like this comes across as pigeon-holing her but she's at her best doing pre-recorded stuff and unfortunately a live game doesn't work like that.
