Just across the Tiber River from the historical center, Trastevere was the neighborhood where foreigners and worshipers of foreign cults dwelled during early Roman times. Its charming maze of medieval streets and picturesque squares make it the ideal setting to discover Rome’s growth and development through ancient, medieval, and modern times...and its small businesses make it a stellar place to graze! Here are my top spots in the hood (* indicates a venue visited in the video)
*Trapizzino for street food and the best damn Lazio wine list around
*Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà for domestic and imported craft beer
*L'Elementare for pizza and fried things
Villa Farnesina for Renaissance paintings by Raphael and others
Orto Botanico for a deeply neglected by somehow charming botanical garden
*Santa Maria in Trastevere for mosaics and marble
*Venanzio aka Supplì for classic rice croquettes
Almost Corner Bookshop for English language books
Latteria for exellent vino, great snacks, and the nicest people
Freni e Frizioni for creative aperitivi
Jerry Thomas Bar Room for craft cocktails
*Otaleg for gelato
Big Star for a chill hang
La Punta for mezcal, tequila, and sotol
*Forme Dispensa a Ripa
Hotel San Francesco for coffee at the bar and vino in the lounge
Santa Cecilia for more mosaics!
San Francesco a Ripa for a sensual Bernini sculpture
La Gensola for Roman and Sicilian flavors (the only restaurant I really recommend in the whole damn hood)
Fior di Luna for gelato
HMU for tours of Roma! katieparla.com...

I'll be staying in Trastevere so the restaurant pick was my #1 question for day 1. Thanks as always for this invaluable insight!

Great video (and description, definitely going to check out La Gensola)! I'm sure you can't have a take on all the food spots in Trastevere, but, any thoughts on Meridionale, Eggs, or Maritozzo Rosso? Lastly, do you have a recommendation of a place that has a reputation for doing Ossobuco well? Love your vibe, Katie. Keep doin' it, Miss.

Those places are cute. they don't really rise to the level of very strong suggestion for their food but they are more than fine. Armando's osso buco is my fave

@@KatieParla I know your focus is food. Maybe special things like Gluten free food in Rome. Since you know Rome so well maybe talk about the lesser known museums of Rome. It also might be nice to see the Flea and Antique markets in Rome. I miss Rome as I have not been there since 2019. Thanks again for your videos.

I didn't understand if it was a joke, however you can drink on the streets and/or in public in Italy and (other thing) to buy it you don't need to be 21 like the US or 18 like other countries (you'll only need to be 16 years old). I should make other points about "some" alcohol (spirits for example) but it would be long and tricky, in any case it doesn't involve the consumer (ever subject to any sanction) but only who sells. 🍺

it was kind of a joke in that everyone walks around drinking and in an informal survey no one I asked knew if it was technically legal. Thanks for sharing the real story!

Hi I go to Italy most of the times twice a year. I am now beginning to think about moving to Italy. I am a U.S. citizen. Can you shed a little light on how to obtain permanent residency in Italy? Grazie.

Strolling around with a plastic cup of beer and then a gelato means definitely not catching the spirit and the taste of Trastevere 😢 that's stuff good for tourists while it would have been of value discovering the tradition and beauty of the district showing about la festa de noantri, Cencio la parolaccia, il mercato di piazza san cosimato, piazza Trilussa, il cannone del Gianicolo che spara la salve a mezzogiorno, etc.. ..where are the trattorie dove "devi da magna come all'antichi"? There is a lot more to discover in the vicoli around... How long did it take you to edit the video? The video is published now in August but people are dressed with jackets and long sleeves...
@KatieParla
@KatieParla 2 ай бұрын
I filmed it in the late spring and published in August. What you are asking for requires a full day of shooting which I am happy to do if you fund it. though La Parolaccia would only be featured as a punchline not a place for quality food. Trattorie a Trastevere are mostly awful. Perhaps re-watch so you can update your understanding of the zone.
