i’m a junior and i’ve been looking into speech-pathology and i think katie should look into the speech-language pathology career path because it incorporates working with children, sign language, and science. if katie would like to go more into the medical route, she could do that with speech-language pathology by working at a hospital or another medical center. she could also choose to work in a school setting if she preferred that. this career incorporates a lot of audiology as well where knowing asl would be extremely beneficial!

Yes it's an Great career chose, there is a wide range of setting that people could work at like Hospitals, Schools, Private Practices, You will get to see a wide range of ages in your clients depending on which setting you pick ranging From Toddlers to Adults. Speech-Language Pathologists. has change my life for the better and found me a voice. I was born with Childhood Apraxia of Speech which its a neurological speech sound disorder. In the simplest way to put it, It affects the connections from my brain to my mouth to forum the sounds of a words I'm trying to say. basically makes it sometime harder for people to understand me what I'm trying to say. So basically it makes it harder for me to gets the words out correctly so people can understand me. To try to make my speech more understandable, I had to attend Speech therapy when I was younger. in total I went to speech Therapy for 15 years, From the ages of 2 in a half to the age of 18 years old. I pretty much kind of owe my life to Speech-Language Pathologists they have done so much for me that people reading this wouldn't be able to understand. They help me find my voice actually. I have so much gratitude towards them! Also Katie has a understanding of sign language which would have so much help. When Kids are trying to develop their speech, There parents might have their kids learn sign language to communication with them and still have their kids developing their speech. I think Katie would be a amazing Speech-Language Pathologist.

I wish Id known about the field when I was in college but first was exposed to it this past August when I spoke with one of my doctor's to some Medical Students. As a recent college grad, I think the idea of Florida community college sounds great for a year or so! You can save a ton of money by staying at the Florida house (if your parents are cool with it) and knock Gen Ed’s out. At the end of the day, a degree is a degree, no matter how much money you spend or where you travel - just do something that makes you happy!

the biggest thing that I learned, I had to take two years off after high school to deal with health issues. I was a pre nursing major and realized that was something I had wanted to be since I was little but quickly realized that it wasn't necessarily for me. I am now transferring to a different university as a pre flight major . I can not say this enough there is no time limit take your time!!!!! I used to think I was too old as a 21-22 year old sophomore, but that is not true. its your life and don't feel you have to rush through and graduate by a certain time. enjoy these years to the fullest. you've got this Katie and everyone else in the same boat I'm in

After I graduated in 2019, I immediately went to college to study hotel management. I was honestly just unhappy with how things were going and I didn’t get along with anyone in my courses. I was lonely. I wanted to drop out so badly but my dad was putting a lot of pressure on me to stay because his friend went to that school and helped start the program. I secretly dropped out but applied to a new university to study media and communications and it was the best decision ever. I’m much happier and motivated to work on my goals.

I love how Katie has an open mind about this whole college thing. It can be pretty overwhelming and it's always good to have a plan! I remember being super stressed out about applying straight to JMU, but then my mom brought up the community college thing and 1. that's what she did and 2. that's what I'm doing now. That's the route that I HIGHLY recommend!!

I’m Australian, and same thing here regarding going to university. I went into primary school education and after a year realised it wasn’t my path. I changed to a media / communications degree which I didn’t really end up using. I now work in online retail and run my own business on the side. At the very least you have memories and learn valuable life skills in college/ university which still equip you for the future. I’m definitely on board with not needing to know. I’m almost 26 but still have no clue what I should do in the next year let alone 50 years ! You’re amazing Katie and I’m excited to see whatever you so

Doesn’t hurt to apply to as many colleges that you might be interested in. Apply for as many scholarships as possible. The decision on where to go might be the one that offers a scholarship. Career choice might depend on what programs the school offers. You just never know where the journey will take you.

In this day in age, if a student doesn’t know what they want to do for a career, community college is the best way to go for a couple of years. Starting off at a four college/university is for a student committed to pursuing a STEM profession that has a set progression of courses or for someone that absolutely knows what they want to do. Like Kate said, you can get the required courses out of the way while trying to figure out what your interests are and what you’d like to do.

I STILL don’t know what I want to do forever and I graduated college 4 years ago. For now, I’m in a career I love but if I want to go back to school, I certainly can. It’s great to be a lifelong learner! After graduating HS, I went to a community college and lived at home. It was a great transition for me. Then I went to a four year college and lived on campus for a semester. I had academic scholarships, a part-time job, and was fortunate to be able to live with my parents for most of it, which means I graduated debt free. I’m in my fourth year teaching, have a great little apartment and am saving to buy a house (or more likely travel)! Love that you are so supportive of Katie (and Brennan’s) lives and choices. So true about the future talk. I had one that STRUGGLED through school, so college was NOT an option. My second one started working and is currently doing a trade. At 26, he will be starting college next Spring at a community college. He will be doing the core classes there, because it’s cheaper, then transferring to a state college. My youngest went to college right out of high school. (Technically, home school high school.) She’s thriving and carrying awesome grades. No two people are the same, thus neither should their paths be.

As someone who finally finished college this year at 28, definitely pursue the community college route if you aren't sure what you want to do. I transferred to a 4 year college truly not knowing what I wanted to do and really struggled. I really didnt like my major and really struggled with depression. I continued to pursue a bachelors at another school and still hated it so i ended up quitting. I finally listened to a good friend and my heart and looked into different community college programs that fit my strengths. As someone who loves math, being active and a consistent job, a pharmacy tech job was the perfect fit. I finally went back to school to do something I truly wanted and did exceptionally. No it was not easy and yes I had my struggles but i graduated in October and landed my dream job before even graduated. Not everyone's path to college looks the same and it's not for everyone right away. Just follow your heart.

Katie! Omg I graduated high school in 2015! (My biggest tip to anyone as a senior is to not take AP courses and to take dual enrollment community college courses)! But, since you’re past that stage, my biggest tip is to do what you feel is right! I knew college was something I wanted/needed to do but I didn’t want a bunch of debt and knew my ultimate goal was to own my own business one day. So, I went to my local community college with a business administration goal! I met sooooo many amazing people, professors, and even worked at my community college as a student worker! I saved so much money and received more one on one time with my professors since they had smaller classes! After I graduated I transferred to a four year private school! My next two years I figured out that I was going to continue with my bachelors in business with a concentration in marketing! All my professors at my school (I went to Hood College, a private school in Frederick MD) were amazing and helpful! They really wanted you to succeed and didn’t see you as a number as many bigger universities unfortunately do!! But, ultimately this is what personally worked for me and I needed up graduating in 2019! College is really what you make out of it! You can join lots of clubs, get involved with your college and get to know professors, etc! It’s up to you 🥰! Also, girl, network, network, and oh network some more because that is how you get your name out there and succeed! I’m sure you will make the right decisions for you! And like you said go with the flow!! Nobody is going to ask you what your grades were in college they ultimately want to see you are committed enough to stick through it and receive your degree! You got this!

I'm a freshman at the University of South Carolina and love it. The school spirit is unmatched especially at the football games. They also have a good cheer leading program. But it is very expensive especially if you want more than a bachelors degree like Katie. UofSC gives great out of state scholarships so we have a high percentage of out of state students. UofSC has a beautiful campus in the city of Columbia, you should definitely tour it. But as much as I love going to a big state school I have realized that I spend most of my time doing school and I kind of regret not going to community college for a year or two to save money.

Exciting. Most folks don’t know going into college what they will do after graduation but lay the groundwork. Community college should be everyone’s base. I love her ability to communicate. It’s better than a lot of college students by me in DC. I even over heard a conversation by a student debating whether he should see a doctor because he had never been to one in his own. I like how all three of the siblings all have been guided in decisions but able to decide for themselves. Nursing is a great idea. My niece got her BS in nursing and her RN. Now she works in labor and delivery.

A friend of my started uni at 17 years old. Many friends switched minors, some even majors and some stopped altogether and all of that is fine. Aquinas College in Michigan. She’d be the star on the cheer team. There is a really good nursing program as well! She’d probably get great scholarships for athletics and her good grades. Great community of people!

Wish Katie the best with apply to college. One thing you may want to think about is direct admit to certain majors. It makes it less stressful and if you don’t like it you can always switch majors

If you’re interested in another Florida school there’s also Florida international university in Florida. It’s like the 5th biggest in the country and it’s pretty good

It doesnt matter what other people tell you Katie, it matters about what you think, where your heart is and what you heart is telling you. Where the heart is the passion will lead, that's the advice I have for Katie. And it is more than okay to not go to college, it's up to you, it's your life, succeeding is key, your on track to settting up the life you want to live, you just have to follow it, there will be times where your decisions will change or the career path you thought was for you was no longer and that is more than okay.

Something that she could possibly look into is being a child life specialist. They’re super helpful in the hospitals.

Katie just think about what you really see yourself doing the rest of your life and reflect about that ❤️ Last year I had to choose the grade I wanted to do and I didn't decide until the last moment because I had so many ideas in my head and as you said with 17 years old I couldn’t decide on what to choose like I really liked all the options . I was between options such as economics, history or being a teacher and finally decided to choose the degree of teaching in elementary education with English philosophy and honestly after finishing my first semester I can't be happier with what I chose and with the people I am meeting and it's because I really see myself teaching children and helping them in everything I can. Just think and reflect on what you want to do throughout your life and what will make you really happy 😊. Good luck with your applications 💕, whatever you choose is going to be correct if you’re happy 😊

Katie is a smart young woman. She is going to be fine no matter what she decides. Her future is bright. I think Katie would do good in sports broadcasting. She loves to talk. Katie could always go to community college for two years if she is undecided with what she wants to do.

Katie has a great mindset. I wish she was around when I was 17 and stressing about college.
