I think one of the elements that also made Dracula do frightening to readers of the time, was that they had just gone through the real life Jack the Ripper killings. Which actually there was an early draft of the novel that was going to pull the Phantom of the Opera style “this is a true story” and heavily imply that Dracula was the reason for the Ripper murders. But the publisher wanted that changed. Also another previous draft fun fact, Dracula’s castle was supposed to actually be destroyed in an volcanic eruption at the end of the novel, triggered by the events at the end. People have found the location Jonathan’s directions lead to, and the spot actually IS a dormant volcano.

This is truly what I needed to experience and get my mind on a calming end. Life has been very stressful lately, and your video really brought me a lot of positive thoughts on how I can change my routines and inspiration on how to approach it. Thanks a lot for creating this and sharing it with all of us. So much to learn and make something special out of the life that had been given. Thank you again and wishing you the best in your journey.

I'm planning to read Dracula next month! I've really gotten into reading classics this year, it's pretty much all I'm in the mood for now haha. I just started Virginia Woolf's first book The Voyage Out and already love her writing. Hopefully when I get to Dracula I'll love it as much as you did cuz I love vamps too. Honestly glad to finally see a reading vlog with someone enjoying it!

I read Dracula in October when I lived in New England. The vibes couldn't have been more immaculate. It's my favorite classic too, and I'm probably going to be rereading it soon since it's been like six years since then.

I had basically the same thoughts as you on Dracula, gave it 5 stars! I really loved it but I thought the ending wasn’t as strong as the spookier beginning which really hooked me! I was named after Mina from the Coppola adaptation so I felt like I had to finally read the book haha. I’m also really loving Anna Karenina, I’m on part 3 (I’ve been reading it off and on for MONTHS haha) in the Maude translation and I can already tell that it will be one of my fave books like Dracula!

this vlog was a delight to watch. i absolutely love your annotations and the little bats you draw are so cute. i have read dracula, and like you, despaired over the men's decisions lol they annoyed me so much. i loved the first part of the book tbh, but i wasn't a fan of the second part and had to finish it on audiobook because i didn't want to dnf the book. i read a lot of classics for some reason. tbh mostly because i love pretentious writing, but also because i just love classics. sadly i haven't read any classics recently apart from pride and prejudice, which i read last month. also, east of eden is one of my favourite books ever. i hope you do enjoy it. it starts a bit slow, but after the first chapter it's just such a great book. it absolutely has my favourite characters as well. and anna karenina used to intimidate me too, but when i picked it up i found out it was very accessible and easy to read.

ah sorry for taking so long to respond to this😭 but thank you so much!! the second half of dracula was kind of a drag, if i wasn't attempting to finish it in this vlog i'm not sure that i would have made it through (i still loved the book overall, but dang it slowed down) i love the pretentious writing in classics as well honestly, but i also like reading them because i like understanding all of the pop culture references haha! i don't think i'll get to east of eden any time soon but if you say it's one of your favorites then i might have to bump it up on my tbr ;) and i started anna karenina last month and totally agree that the writing is very easy to understand, it was a pleasant surprise

Another lovely, cozy vlog. I watched with my aunt in the room and when you said about the town in Britain being less spooky, her response was ‘clearly, you’ve never been to Whitby. It’s definitely creepy with that big old building on the cliff’. She meant Whitby Abbey which does look very atmospheric and spooky. So maybe that’s what Stoker was going for. 😀

Ok, The Vampyr was by Lord Byrons doctor Polidori, in the same contest that caused Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Byrons publisher grabbed it from papers lying around and assumed it was Byrons and published it, because any thing by Byron at the point would sale. It took years to straighten out and Polidori got so depressed he killed himself. It's honestly not that great, but it's no headset to read than Frankenstein, and I love getting into all those guys writings together. Especially if you like just imagine these rich spoiled bored people hanging out in a debauched state and writing scary stories.

I totally agree on Crescent City. I really tried to like it and tried to convince myself: oh you know everyone loves it, why don't you? The only reason I will continue reading it is because of the ending of THOSAB but I can't say this is a good series. I don't like the modern fantasy with phones. The magic there is gone and the characters are ... yeah well
