This is another one of your videos that I enjoy revisiting. Your message really resonates because I struggle with perfectionism in many aspects of life, my art included. And your fish...I just love them! Their charm and brilliant colors are truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing your art and your artistic wisdom with us, Katie.

Thank you so much Lisa 🥰 Perfectionism is such a tricky one, I definitely struggle with it in real life too. I find it easier to battle in art now so hopefully that'll happen in real life too!! Thank you for your wonderful support 🧡

It’s so important to have fun with your art 😄 It’s easy to fall into the mindset that everything has to be perfect. I used to be scared to use my art supplies and try new things, because I was so worried about how my pieces would turn out. But when I started using a sketchbook, it really took the pressure away and made trying new supplies and techniques really fun. Now I have so much fun when creating and I try new things all the time. Have never had more fun with my art than I have now and that has made me create even more!

Exactly! I think that it can be so easy to get caught up in that mindset but like you say, having fun is what makes the most amount of difference and also is what keeps us going! Without the enjoyment there, what's the point? So lovely to hear that you found a way to remove the pressure and are enjoying it more than ever! 🤩

I'm finding the more mistakes I make, the easier it is for me to embrace them. Granted they're only little ones - I often make mistakes with ink but I know chances are no one will notice them but me. In the end it's like a little secret between me and the art so I quite like them being there. And in general, imperfections are what make us unique. Perfect is boring!

That's so true Emma, I guess that's similar to a lot of things in life of doing things despite mistakes! And you're right - we often know our own mistakes but who else would?! I also love how you see them as a little secret between you and the artwork, what a lovely way to see it! 🥰

yep 'bad' art doesnt really exists, especially when it comes to sketchbook work. any art practice is good practice, as long as a person focus's on that they are doing🙂🙃🙂

I avoided doing art for years because I was caught in some stupid mind fork that everything I did had to be a certain way, be for a person, be for a frame, a wall, etc. Torch those nasty ideas. Nowadays, I avoid doing anything destined for someplace beyond my sketchbook or little storage box. I like laying down bright, bold colour. Pokemon are good for this, but why spend the time sketching them by hand when I can trace them to get to the colouring part that I enjoy? And colour by number with Neoii? Yes, please. More bright patches of colour. Anyway, all of this to say - create whatever it is that you ACTUALLY ENJOY creating. Not what fantasy-you enjoys creating, not what your favourite social media artist creates, not what your mom wants, your partner wants, your friend wants, what you "should want". It doesn't matter what it is. It doesn't matter how childish, derivative (within the law, of course lol), uninspired, unprofessional, unimpressive, or ridiculous it is. Just do it.

Yesss I love this!! Isn't it funny how our brain decides something has to be like that? I love that you found a way that works for you. Colouring in Pokemon sounds so fun! Lots of bright colour, lots of fun, what's not to love?! So lovely to hear your thoughts on this 🥰

@@KatieMoody there is still that nagging feeling of, "Ugh, if I do this, I am not a Real Artist ™." Well, guess what, Self? Do you think you're an artist if you're not making art at all LOL?
