Perspective: This comment is from an 80+ year old father of 6, Grandfather to 15, Great GP to 9 and counting- in short-someone who has seen much, been hurt much, and been blessed much more. I do hear the longing in your heart, the pain and the wondering when. It touches me as if you were one of my own grandchildren. Many have commented on the beauty of the music you create. As a singer songwriter and musician myself let me add my praise. But, there is soooo much more going on here and I want you to know, dear child, that I pray daily for your fulfillment as God is going to define it. There is a old song sung by Ricky Skaggs which has the words "Talk about suffering here below, and let's keep following Jesus". My instruction to you is to maximize the lessions God is teaching you out of your pain and count on His promise as His beloved child. Count on that He will give you the rich blessed life you long for. Know that you are loved by so many people, blessed by many people and incredibly cherished by the One who knew you and your future before you were born. Blessings

@@koevirel8350 I have to agree, there's something about how heartfelt her singing is that connects on a deeper level. I got to meet her in Charlotte, NC after the concert, and wanted to say so much about this, but it's hard to express because it goes beyond words. In many ways, she has that Karen Carpenter aura about her. That's what I told her. I think it's the way she puts her longings out there for the world to see and experience for themselves that reaches out to you, like you're the only one in the room.

Katie, I'm no musician, only a wordsmith, so while the whole song is just beautiful, I can only comment your beautiful lyrics. Am I the only one who hears a bird song in the repeated "What'll I do? What'll I do?" And it's striking how this song is the mirror image of "California": That one is about things that almost happened, and words that were never said, and because of them the girl in the song seems bound by her regrets and tied to the past. But here, she leaves nothing unsaid, and if the answer she receives brings her sorrow, it also sets her free. Somehow, it makes me thinks of Philippians 3:13-14, too. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us! Blessings! ~Fr. Nick

Come to think of it, you're absolutely right. If you say "what'll I do" really fast, it sounds like a bird chirping.
@joycesmith82992 жыл бұрын
The besutiful thing about poetic artistry, that we can all interpret just as our own imaginations allow. I am a happy ending romantic, and I see this contemplative song as the postscript to California...the line " I know that she will always love you, and so will I" is a door left ajar. The new song closes the door...there is life after heartbreak...Of course, not every song, every poem is autobiographical...so whatever, if it promotes discussion, it is a success. God is good.
@alecepting13712 жыл бұрын
@@joycesmith8299 What I got out of the song is that the uncertainty of not knowing is what really holds us back, more so than the rejection that we might experience. Because once you pose the question and get the answer, it provides us with the certainty we need to move on, regardless of the outcome. Been there, done that. Definitely an evocative song written in just the right key for the message.

Ah Katie, the tenderness and what appears to be vulnerability in this song is overwhelming. I'm trying to decide whether this song is just a song or if it's a real life experience. From the outside looking in, I'd say you have to be one of the most eligible females in Branson, so if "he" doesn't know what he'll do, just punch him in the throat. He ain't worth it otherwise. You deserve gold so don't settle for coal, just fly. Soar like the eagle you are. Loved all of the song. God is GOOD.

In fact, I've dug a trench and poured four pitchers over it three times to fill up the moat so that nothing could get through. Then there were your songs. An impassable sixty miles away into the Deep Woods and you call down this fire to lick up every last drop in the trough. I don't know whether to bless or curse them. Katie, when I first saw that you had done a video for the song "What'll I Do?", I clicked to play it immediately without stopping to read the description, and thought I was going to hear you do a cover of the old Irving Berlin song of the same title. I knew the song, and I knew for certain how good it would be to hear you performing it, so I didn't waste a second to click on the video.... Well you can imagine how surprised I was when I expected to hear you sing an old Irving Berlin song and instead I heard a new song that I had never heard before...but I was very pleasantly surprised, for sure!! 😁 And it only got better when I 🙃 FINALLY read the description later and found out that you had written it! Every note, every word, and your rendition of those notes and words, were just so perfect for expressing the passion and emotions at the root of the song... but that's nothing new for you. You are always so excellent in your music, just as you were this time, but I have to say that this time was just even more special. So was I disappointed or let down that I didn't get to hear you perform the old Irving Berlin song? Not in the least [... though I do hope that maybe one day you will give us a chance to hear you perform that song, too]. I'll just mention here that the Berlin song of the same name has a similar theme but goes in a decidedly different direction. I'm glad you took your song in the direction you did, and I'm really glad I got to hear you and your song. Many thanks, Katie. I consider myself so blessed to have found you and your family in my ongoing online journey.

I'm almost embarrassed by the number of times I've listened to this, but the more I listen to it, the more I love it. As someone who does some writing, I'm impressed by the storytelling in this. You can only call the key person in this a heroine, first struggling with uncertainty and fear, and sadness. Then she finds the courage to take the risk, even though she fears the outcome, maybe knows the outcome. Still, she finds the courage within herself to open herself, and the worst happens. Or does it? She survives, and grows stronger, becoming the beautiful bird flying toward what might be blue skies. A story for all of us. Lovely job. The music is beautiful, and the message is somehow even better.

Last night the Holy Spirit was speaking to me through this song. It changed into a love song to our Lord Jesus. Sometimes even though we have faith we may lose sight of that, thinking does He really love me? God reminds us in Matthew 10 that we are worth way more than even the sparrow. By dying on the cross for us Jesus freed us from our bondage to sin (the rope is gone!). Even in the silence, in our trust in him, he will give us the answers.

Katie... You have the most lovable personality of any woman I have ever had the pleasure of getting to know. Even from all the way over here on the outside of the internet looking in. Don't ever stop taking care of your sweet heart. My most sincere and warmest regards, Dean :-I

Ahhh Katie. Another beautiful song. The writing, the performance. I am constantly surprised at how you can touch the heart strings. If I may be so bold as to offer some advice, it is fine to use our own life experiences as the subject of a song, but not to let it impact your real life. I hope and want to believe that is what you are doing. You are (or at least seem to be) an amazingly sweet woman. If someone hurt you in the past, use the emotion for your art, and then let it go. Do not empower someone who obviously didn't and doesn't deserve that much of your heart. People who hurt us have made their choices. You are stronger than that. You have a caring heart. A great faith. A desire to put others before yourself. You radiate these qualities. Through your talents and your smile. Use the memories, but don't let them have power over you. So happy to see the song end on a brighter tone this time. Maybe all that I have said didn't need saying lol. You do seem to be working it out. Just continue to love those who earn it by returning it. You are amazing! As always, it is a joy to get new music from you (and the family as well). looking forward to more. Enjoy your time off. Stay safe and well. All the best to the family as well. Keep sharing that beautiful smile.

How nice it was for the weather to cooperate with the recording of your video to offer such a gorgeous portrait in the background of freshly fallen snow.
