Both are wonderful, snuggly perfumes for cooler weather. Coco is spicy, and Shalimar is vanilla-y. If you love leathery/smoky, go for Shalimar.

I got my mother this perfume for christmas (along with Blue Satin Chanel nailpolish) and it smells amazing. One time sh was going to work and when she came into my room to say goodbye I could smell it for ten minutes after she left.

Interesting question, I'd never thought of it that way before. I'm tempted to say that mainstream fragrances marketed to men have more throw on account of the bold, muscular accords: the vetiver, the sneezy, aggressively fresh stuff. But don't think there's a difference in terms of stronger concentration/longevity. And a lot of guys consider that loudness in a fragrance is a plus, which I don't agree with. But that may account for the bigness of stuff sold for men.

A great review for Coco & well worth the wait - I so agree with the 'plumminess' aspect, for me it feels/smells more like hot apricot crumble on a winter's day and is very comforting!

I think if you like Prada Amber, you should try Coromandel by Chanel. It's usually sold just at the Chanel boutiques and certain branches of high end dept stores. I've got a review of it on KP Smells.

I really love this fragence. I brought this when I graduated from high school and it just makes me happy. I wear it on nights out and on special occasions, so whenever I smell it it takes me back to those memories. Perfume is wonderful that way - thanks!

Thanks ever so! Re BV: it *is* gentle - perhaps you might consider layering it with the BV body cream? There are 2 other peachy/suede perfumes that come to mind, but neither have BV's fresh grassy opening. They are Serge Lutens Daim Blond and Keiko Mecheri Cuir Cordoba.

Coco is indeed for mature people, more grown up, but still a fragrance that leaves the male out of breath and leave your trace everywhere you go. Coco Mademoiselle, mostly for the day for its freshness I would say. I use Chance, and Armani both day and night. I think I would go for the Coco next. What would you prefer? Coco or Coco Mademoiselle?

How would you compare Coco to Coco Mademoiselle? I use Coco Mademoiselle almost daily so idk weather I would prefer the eau du parfum of Mademoiselle or if I should look into trying Coco.

I am a mature guy that recently purchased Coco EDP (French Version). I LOVE IT. It has the sophistication that I have been looking for in a male fragrance. The EDT was too thin for me. Eventually I will purchase the parfum version. Goes well with a dress shirt and slacks.

Speaking of perfumes that are too old for young people, I'm a couple weeks away from being 18, and I absolutely LOVELOVELOVE YSL's Opium. I get compliments on it every single time I wear it out (I wear it day and night, winter, and spring), but my mom always tells me that it's way too old for me. It gets so annoying.

Chanel did a brilliant job of the Coco body lotion too. The initial hit might put off a lot of people, but it develops after 10 minutes into a very close sensual refined experienced. I wish they made the body creme.

You are my favorite perfume reviewer. I just love the way you describe things. I had a bit perfume disappointment recently. I purchased Bottega Veneta, which I love, but the disappears on me so quickly. I tend to wear perfume so I can smell it, do you know of something similar you can recommend? I'm also looking for something to replace Floris' Malmaison since it has been discontinued, so any carnation fragrance recommendations would also be appreciated. Thank you very much! xxMeg

:) Coco is one of my favourites, your review captured everything that I love about how this perfume unfolds. I first tried it when I was 13 and loved it on my skin (but thought I was too young for it) and then again in my early twenties and I still loved it (and now I am never without a small bottle of the parfum). It's really interesting to hear you compare it to opium because that was the first perfume I purchased when i was 13.

It 100% reminds me of my childhood, when my parents would go out to a dinner party or something my mother would come and give me a big hug and her silk scarves would smell of coco, so it makes me almost sad as it makes me think of when she would leave me.

Coco is definitely the parfum that I like the most in a woman... it's just wonderful, I love to smell it in my grandmother, girlfriend, etc. I'm totally crazy for it and I think women who buy that parfum have such a personality!!! And about the parfum-age hahaha I agree with u, you dont need to be 30 to wear that.... When I was 12 I used to wear Antaeus and Platinum egoiste de Chanel so... and Antaeus is still my favorite parfum (I'm 18 and I wear it a lot) :D Greetings and Blessings

This reminds me of a story...I got on a bus on my way to work in the morning. One poor lady began sneezing her head off, and I realized it was because of ME; I was wearing Neiges by Lise Watier. As busses go, it was a small one, I tried to move away, but there was only so far I could move. I felt so guilty and learned to keep the Neiges a bit under wraps, literally. But, yeah, what IS that especially sneezy ingredient?

I have a love/hate relationship with Chanel fragrances. My instincts tell me I'm supposed to love them since they're so popular and "classic" but whenever I smell one, I just don't care for it much. Whether it be the original No.9, the lighter Eau Premiere that my mom wears, Coco or Coco Mademoiselle, something about them smell too....heavy I guess? Maybe too powdery? They kind of smell old. ARRGH Katie help me, I can't articulate myself as eloquently as you can! :P

I think Allure and Chance are the "gateway" Chanel scents. I once felt the same as @SpunkStalker101 - but those two got me into the others. Also - like you said in your review - a lot of Chanel fragrances come on strong, but improve as they go along. It's always worth getting a tester!

Chanel #5 is over a hundred years old, but no one thinks of it as a "mature" fragrance. Coco was released in 1985, but it gets this ridiculous rap as a dated scent. I'm with you: "wonderful, snuggly" is a nice way to describe it.
