As a guy who generally hates most womens perfumes (too sweet and overpowering) ive got to say this is one I absolutely love on women. Actually i think its the only one i really like. Girl at work wears it and at first I thought it was this deodrant she was always using and I couldn't understand why it was so alluring and attracting me to her until I asked her one day and when she mentioned chanel I thought oh that makes sense, as I really rate their mens perfumes. Projection and sillage v good, longevity around 4-6 hours. Probly best suited to a younger crowd, under 35. Do urself a favour, pay the chanel price and get ur hands on it.

@KatiePuckrikSmells: Hmm...I'm usually not a big proponent of layering (how can you see the first painting if you put another in front of it). That being said, I might have to give it a try. Btw: many more viral perfume critics have come out recently, but I still think you're the absolute best!!! Love your channel!!

Great review Katie! I'm getting a Chanel perfume soon and I'm tied up between these: Chanel N°5, Chanel N°19, Chanel Coco and Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. I may even be getting two, and if I do get two, one of them will be N°5 without a doubt. Which is your favourite out of these?

I'm on a Coco Noir roll with my Chanel recommendations here. It's classy, sweet but not sickly, not too standard. Chanel No. 19 Poudre is a beauty, too, but it's not on the sweet side - it's an elegant puff of iris and powder.

This is a WONDERFUL question! So wonderful that I had to sit down and give it some good thought. I think No. 5 is "classic", not "common", firstly because it has stood the test of time. Also, it was a groundbreaking work of art when it came out in 1921, and influenced perfume trends for generations. And for many years, perfume was an exclusive luxury item worn mostly by wealthy people, so No. 5 has retained that cachet.

I do like Coco Mademoiselle (as I like most Chanels), I do, however, it does have a bit of a coppery drydown that I find to be a little agitating. In lieu of Coco Mademoiselle, I opt for the original Coco (1984). I find Coco to be a deep, soapy, spicy and dare I say mysterious oriental. I am surprised that you didn't mention it within this review though as a point of reference. I'm curious, whats your take on Coco? Love it, hate it?

@KatiePuckrikSmells that's so ironic that you're mentioning flora nymphea. i randomly picked it up at sephora a few days ago (never even heard of it before), and am completely in love with it now. it smells soooo amazing and i'm quickly using up my little sample.

Hi Katie! Thanks for your suggestions. Yeah, I ended up choosing Chanel N°5 100 ml EDP. I live in Australia and our perfume prices are ridiculous compared to everywhere else. Chanel N°5 100 ml EDP sells for $234 Australian dollars in our department stores. Where I purchased it they didn't have any EDT formulations of N°5, therefore I didn't have money for a second bottle. To answer your question, yes I'm a guy and I'm 16 years old. N°19 is beautiful, but so is Coco and Coco Mademoiselle.

I must have 50 bottles of fragrance, Coco Mademoiselle being one, and I am constantly looking for the right scent. What is wrong with me? (!) I can wear a fragrance for one day and be tired of it the next. I envy those who have a signature scent, but sadly, I am not one of them. I want to be, but it has never happened. Sigh. Thanks so much for this review. It has given me a sense of normality, for I think now that others may tire of fragrance like I do--even of perfectly lovely scents.

I like Mademoiselle's 'elegant femininity + bug spray' character and I like Lady Vengeance for the same reason, even though they don't smell the same. My skin really sucks up the patch notes and spits out everything else though. Chance smells practically identical after 15 minutes on my wrist.

The first time I smelled Mademoiselle, I thought I'd died and gone to fragrance heaven. I love how it's citrusy at the beginning, and then the masculine edge stops the vanilla dry down from being sweet. I haven't yet been able to find another oriental that sidesteps stifling sweetness so well. Sadly, I do smell it on other people too often, which is extremely off-putting. Do you recommend any light, summery fragrances to replace this as the weather gets warm?

@KatiePuckrikSmells you're right, No 5 still carries its status of perfume for "people of wealth". I wonder if Coco Mademoiselle, just like No5, will too graduate into "classic" one day (or did it already??.. I personally doubt that)

Amazing scent! my favorite. It's young, feminine, elegant and expensive-smelling! I love how you mentioned that it's a *bit* just a bit masculine I get what you mean but don't scare people off because it's something that only you might notice. Anyway, I have never smelled it on someone. I get so many compliments wearing it.

@silvuna3505
@silvuna3505 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, very similar what I think of CM. It is a classic, business type fragrance. It is not flirty or seductive, it is an elegant, flowery-citrusy, patchouli, a bit of fresh, rather on the cold side scent. Very appropriate for work, type of CEO woman where she meets other professionals but still quite feminine.
@KatiePuckrikSmells

Yes, all those iterations of Daisy are confusing, aren't they! I'm talking about the eau de parfum in the black bottle with the gold top. It's got a strawberry candy smell which is why I thought you might like it. And Coco Noir also has a red berry smell, which is why I recommended it. Chance Tendre is more floral and Coco Mademoiselle is patchouli-ish, so I thought they might not be the right fit for you. But follow your nose and buy the one you think is the prettiest and most "you"!

It's funny, though - No. 5 continues to dominate the fume landscape, even though for many years of its reign, it was one of only hundreds of other perfumes, not the thousands that are available today. It has transcended ubiquity to make it to the hallowed halls of true classics.

I'm on my 2nd bottle of Coco Mademoiselle EDP and I'm honestly tired of it. I always get compliments every time I wear this. I only use it now as a "regular day" fragrance I and alternate it my Guerlain Champ Elysees for spring/summer. A year or so ago I use it on special occasions. I now reserve my Guerlain perfumes (Shalimar, Samsara, L'Heure Blue&Mitsuoko) on special occasions instead.

@WolfEyesatNight I just researched this a bit more, and perfumer Liz Zorn says that as long as the perfume smells fine, you can wear it. It's more common for perfumes with high amounts of natural ingredients to produce sediment, so it's odd that your Ralph Lauren has it.

@Sirilloh I've heard from several men who love the scent of Coco Mlle and wish they could wear it themselves, but find it slightly too feminine. But I think it's squarely in the spicy patchouli-with-a-dab-of-freshness arena that seems like a guy could pull off. I think you should try it and see for yourself.

Coco Mademoiselle is a scent that I'd love to own (if I had the money), but, as you said, it's worn by a lot of people! I agree with you that it's a girls' night out scent (nicely described!)... Egoiste is really nice - I've only ever tried it on my skin once a while back. I had the oddest experience with a sample of Coco Mademoiselle: within 20 seconds of spritzing it on, it smelled, unmistakeably, like fresh tomato juice on my skin. How strange is that? I guess my (otherwise normal) body chemistry just flat-out rejected it. However, if I ever want to smell like a summer salad, I know what to do. :)

@TheSukiebapswent I thought for sure Les Senteurs in London would carry it, but the closest they have is Lutens Feminite de Bois. Bois de Violette is a violet-y version of FdB (putting it simplistically). You could always get a samp of FdB from Les Senteurs and see if it's going in the right direction for you. Anyway, Bois de Violette is a gorgeous, full-bodied spicy oriental featuring Violette in a dramatic way, rather than a simpering pastel way.

@WolfEyesatNight I don't know for sure what that sediment is, but I would take your bottle back to the store for an exchange. It could be that the perfume has been affected from exposure to heat/light. Often, vintage bottles of perfume have this kind of white sediment. But it's odd that your new perfume has it!

@roughouserosie ahh, yes...Sicily is one of my favorites. In my opinion, it has such potential to be a "classic." It is unclear why it is unavailable in most stores...some have said that it is discontinued...I am not sure. However, as you mentioned, it is easily found online, (Target even has it for a terrific price)! If you live near a store called "Drug Emporium," you will find Sicily stocked there for a fair price.

I agree, about perfume sort of losing it's "oomph"...My "me" scent is Angel by Thierry Mugler, but I only wear it in the winter time, and I give it a break and wear other things the rest of the year. My "go to" scents are Kim Kardashian or Reserve by Perry Ellis in the Spring, Bvlgari's Omnia Crystalline or Burberry Summer in [duh!] the Summer and YSL's Parisienne in the Fall. I think it's important both for you and whoever might be smelling you, that you alternate and switch it up some times.

@KatiePuckrikSmells 13 жыл бұрын
@WolfEyesatNight Oh, well the sun factor will explain the sediment in your perfume. Re your vintage perfume question: all perfumes will lose their power over time, some quicker than others. And really old perfumes will lose their top notes, but may still stay true to their original drydown, even if they're discolored. Others will go flat or rancid. It all depends on how carefully the owners have stored them.

@hilaphant Thanks! It's my new favorite: Burberry lip gloss in Brick No. 6. Lots of pigment, just sticky enough to be longer lasting than many glosses, and no glitter/sparkle.

I'm going to move to Mexico City next summer! That's amazing! It's a beautiful city. I really think Coco Mademoiselle really suits the city!

I went on a perfume hunt the other day at while at Macy's and, sadly, only found one or two scents that appealed *at all* - this was one of them. Still, It wasn't enough to make it onto my List of Perfumes to Buy (Someday). I'm mainly looking for something with a beautiful, strong honey scent. Not terribly common, I'm afraid.
