Great job. Everything done properly. As an old schooler, the oil base finishes were the best. I have always been skeptical of water based finishes because they can open the grain. Also, water based finishes can be brittle especially on wood flooring. Eliminating oil base products was the dumbest things ever done over very, very sketchy climate change claims. Stupid, stupid stupid. It matters who you vote for.

I appreciate you didn’t fast forward the process like other diyers it’s great to see the whole thing happen in 30 seconds but for those of us who have never done anything like this it’s really great to be able to learn and all your tips were great advice. I want to be able to do these things myself but I don’t know even know the names of the tools so I appreciate the slower pace and you going over every bit and every tool! It has 2 leaves that drop down the sides, or if up, are held up by a pull out piece of wood. I have carted that table around the world during my military career. Now, it needs some love. Thanks to you, I have some ideas of how to make it lovely again. Thanks!

I love it. It looks so much better. What a great makeover. I love the way the color turned out. I will have to find a similar color to that driftwood to use as a paint wash. I use Dixie Belle paints. I do the same when I sand. I start with 80 grit (when needed), then 120 and finish with 180. Before I do the 180 I always wipe the piece down with a wet rag to “pop” the grain. I find this really helps when applying my stain and top coat.

I’m in process for refinishing some very old maple pieces for my own home, and after removing the orange shellac, I paint washed with Annie Sloan “Country Grey.” For a final coat I used three applications of linseed oil and then waxed with wax and white wax. The trunk is finished, and I’m still working on the secretary desk, but I’m very pleased with the beautiful pale finish on the maple.

Amazing transformation. I think a lot of people own/were handed down at least a few pieces afflicted with the "orange wood" syndrome that are structurally sound, but look horribly dated. You see it with kitchen cabinets too and it really dates the entire kitchen. The combo paintwash and stainwash techniques were the perfect update and made the table look brand new. Well done!
