Had an early menopause during the UK lockdown start of this year. I’m 46 yrs and my mum had her menopause in her 50s. So painful as I never had the chance to have a baby. Didn’t meet the right guy at the right time. Had huge mood swings past 2yrs from low oestrogen and huge hair loss. Hope for all of us that 2021 brings better things. Thanks for all your good work Kati ☺️🇬🇧

This is progestin and not progesterone. Progesterone does not act anything like progestin which is toxic.

I find it so important to spread information about hormones and mental health so thank you for explaining how they work. I personally suffer from highly increased anxiety and sometimes depression the week before my period and during it. I was only able to detect the timing once my anxiety started being less regular/intense, as I used to feel it every day, and was able to see the correlation. My OB-GYN gave me birth control pills and the symptoms went away. Before that I had no idea that hormones were related to mental health. Even when I still struggle, it has helped me a lot. It took me almost ten years to know this, I hope this comment helps others seek help soon.

It has been so useful to hear about the hormones and be more conscious about what they do, right as I am getting at that time of the month and feeling a bit unsettled and tired. The aesthetician is amazing! People who are able to explain that well the procedures they will use to help you are true professionals. I have had doctors talk to me like that and that caring confidence just helps you as a patient a lot!

I quit birth control after 4 months of using it. That trash was making me go full Kanye West and I was depressed all the time (I’ve had past experience with manic depression). My skin got so bad and I felt miserable. Now I’m 1 month clean and I feel so much better.
@kdalfndnfdjsf17024 жыл бұрын
I also experienced hormonal acne after quitting. Sadly it's quite common. Happy that you feel better now! (I sorta cleared up my skin with introducing chemical peels & niacinamide but still get the ocassional hormonal pimple)

Hello Kati! Do you think PTSD can mess up with progesterone level? you were talking about how progesterone affects rational thinking and mood swings. I have PTSD and having issue with mensuration for long time now (PMS and 2weeks long periods). I started birth control pill that have progesterone and estrogen and I feel fantastic while taking the pill but one of the doctor told me that person with migraine taking estrogen can increase the risk of stroke (I have migraine about 10times in a month). So I am planning to switch to minipill (progesterone only pill) but I really don’t want to have anymore issues.

Yes! I have a video about how the subconscious mind works, PTSD stored in the subconscious affects your whole body, including hormone balance!
@Katimorton4 жыл бұрын
I haven't read too much research on it but because our stress response (which is activated frequently when we have PTSD) causes our body to release a lot of cortisol, oxytocin, and adrenaline (all hormones) so it will increase those, which I would assume (because it's all a balance) it could affect our other hormones (like progesterone ) as well. xoxo

@@sayusayme7729 Hello, thank you for the reply and sharing your story! I have a question about your experience. May I ask you if you had gallbladder issue because of the birth control pill? I have removed my gall bladder (due to gall stone) when I was 17 or so and I was and am taking birth control pill now as well. So I am curious if I am in similar situation as you are.

I've had extreme anxiety since 2018 and I FINALLY started to take something for it and my skin has cleared up from acne. I always had pretty clear skin so it confused me that I started getting acne at 28, and now it's going away finally. Totally unexpected that my mental health was the cause of my skin. I thought they just both happened around the same time not believing it was related.

My cycle is all over the place not only because I started cycling later than most (15 y/o) but I also have hydrocephalus meaning I sometimes need brain surgery to regulate csf flow. I thought this was informative. Two years ago I had my IUD removed and it left me with bad depression and anxiety, and first time dealing with panic attacks; I had no idea what was going on with my mental health. I was going through a hormonal imbalance and dealing with recent trauma too. My old therapist said I was dealing with anxiety (she was informed that I was dealing with an hormonal imbalance too) and started doing EMDR, and it was the worse session ever. The combination on EMDR and hormonal imbalance sent me down a spiral.

Plastic surgeons and estheticians will tell you melasma is an inflammatory condition and then turn around and suggest an inflammatory-inducing procedure. This procedure is not recommended for melasma, but the mandelic acid she used is ok.

Hi Kati, please consider using more inclusive language going forward, e.g. saying "these things happen usually in people assigned female/male at birth" instead of saying men/women, and avoid saying things like "in women's ovaries", rather just say "in ovaries" which is just as clear and more inclusive. Thank you!
