I’ve been using Kato’s N scale unitrack kits and I love them. If you haven’t already, I recommend grabbing HV4 and 3 or 4 more pieces of rolling stock. This way, you can setup what’s called an “Inglenook shunt” and play the switching game associated with it. :)

A cushion car is a type of boxcar that has its couplers connected to a bar that goes beneath the boxcar itself. That bar is on a spring that connects to the body of the boxcar. This means that when you couple to the car, the impact isn’t directly felt by the boxcar, but cushioned by the spring underneath. Think of it like suspension on a car. I saw another comment say that a cushion car is a car that goes between the locomotive and tanker. That’s false. The term for that would be a spacer car or buffer car, either one is correct but buffer car is more typically used.

Actually, they have hydraulic or spring devices in the couplers. Most rail cars still have them, except of course hoppers. Also cushion cars were first made in the 50s.

So you get also the Japanese Newspapers! And for free! Thats great... And also, as a side effect, you can build a large model train layout on the floor. Cool! Cushion car refers to the transmission of force between the couplers in the car. The couplers were cushioned by a hydraulics based damper to absorb the shock when two cars were pushed together for coupling. To spare the contents of the car from damage in case of fragile cargo. Because handling of cargo used to be a little rough in earlier times.

Cushion car is in the correct position on the rake. It’s purpose is it to sit in front of oil,gas tankers so if there’s a derailment or collision the gas tanker doesn’t hit the locomotive and catch fire and explode (the locomotive being hot and potential ignition point) ...... I think 😂

Not exactly. First off, you’re thinking of a buffer car, not a cushion car. Also, it isn’t to protect the locomotive from igniting, but just to protect the crew and locomotive in general. Since the locomotive’s fuel tank is located beneath the body, it’s very difficult to ignite it. You’d have to somehow fold the locomotive’s frame in half. Since tankers tend to crumple on contact with a locomotive, I doubt it would ignite the fuel tank by colliding into it. Buffer cars are used usually with hazardous materials in general, and even go between freight cars sometimes. For example, molten metal trains, or bottle trains, have buffer cars between the torpedo cars( the cars that hold the molten metal). This is most likely due to the fact that torpedo cars that are in use today are around 80 to 90 years old. They also are extremely heavy, so if a torpedo car were to derail and hit another torpedo car, you’d be looking at a very dangerous situation.

Good test run unusual but it works. Coincidentally I just pulled out my HO SCALE black oil tanker car same road name BURLINGTON ROUTE by ATHEARN . The track siding was too close to the outer some extension tracks will solve that please no accidents on the CSX heads may roll! 😄 Im familiar with those ditch lights on KATO they're annoying when those ditch lights don't work this happened to me with SD 90 MAC engine NORFOLK SOUTHERN to be precise haven't replaced it as of yet! Nice set. I will continue to watch your channel. 🙂

I wanted to buy the kato track for my father. But Roco track was easier accessible. So i got that instead. Kato is good quality! And made in Japan! Where they make the good quality stuff! You are lucky you have such a big train now! :-) looks nice. And so many views! Well, it seems people like nice trains. Who could resist? I couldn’t... Now you need a cat to have fun with the train. Cats love model trains too!

That Kato track looks like a well made set and definitely joins together nice. I like that CSX GEVo. I just ordered an NS Tier 4 GEVo today. Have been wanting one for a couple weeks now so said what the heck I've waited long enough. I got the ET44AH and can wait for it to arrive. Once you get your 2nd locomotive you can put it in the front and have the other in the middle as a DPU.

@@thushanlak6444 There are many brands of track but I like Atlas HO Code 100 rail with Woodland Senics trackbed. And yes, any HO trains will work with any track brand. The one thing to watch out for is if you get a steak locomotive look at the minimum curve radius.
