The clothes worn by those aunties are called "海青" (literally meaning: deep blue like the sea, where "青" originally refers to green, but here it is interpreted as blue, as the term "青出于蓝胜于蓝", can encompass both colors). This attire is associated with Han Buddhism and is specifically worn during worship ceremonies. The name originates from a bird found in Northeast China called "海东青" (literally meaning blue eastern sea), a relatively small yet fierce raptor. The garment is named after this bird because its wide sleeves, when walking, resemble the outspread wings of the 海东青. There is a poem by Li Bai that goes, “翩翩舞广袖,似鸟海东来’”(Gracefully dancing with broad sleeves, resembling a bird arriving from the eastern sea.")
@CjxJamie
@CjxJamie 6 ай бұрын
It's more like 青 originally encompass both green and blue. The colour spectrum is a gradient, we need to be trained to recognise the different hues in the spectrum. In the evolution of almost all languages, we can see that the words for dark (black) and bright (white) always appear the earliest, followed by red, yellow, then green/blue, and violet (proper blue) is usually the last. Some language (vietnamese for example) still have the same word for green and blue, and they differentiate it by saying leaf-green or sky-green
@rongwu-sj9ws
@rongwu-sj9ws 6 ай бұрын
@@CjxJamie In ancient Chinese, the term "蓝" originally referred to a type of plant used for dyeing, but over time its meaning gradually expanded to include color in general. Meanwhile, "青" at that time represented a relatively broad spectrum of colors, possibly encompassing what we now identify as green (青草), blue (青天), and black (青丝). Since the term "海东青" has been in use for quite some time, it has persisted to the present day. However, the meaning of "青" has undergone some changes today, and it is not commonly used to describe the color blue.

You are the best presenter, Kats; you have the tack for blending in. You have a reincarnated Chinese past life-definitely!! (no, I'm not a Lama to say that😄) You literally amaze me--every episode I've been able to watch is always an A+

I always wait for your posts. I love the easy vibe of it. Also, love very much the music combo of country, sometimes jazz and instrumental depending in the scene. But most of all, the humanity content of it. Keep doing it.

我是来之浙江中部金华下面一个县里的农村, 很怀念这种集市,小时候比这个热闹多了,都是自己家里种的东西,拿到集市来卖。现在回去很多老房子都没有了。 假如能回到过去,过几天那该有多好。

Another very interesting video showing village life in rural China and I have to say that the village looks very neat and clean. The locals are so friendly and it is always to see how excited you are when you saw your favourite animal, ie the chicken albeit a toy version.
