No matter how she is live, noone can deny the fact that katy has a powerful voice...the way she can project her voice is NOT something everyone can do easily. And besides hitting the high notes, she has a beautiful tone and a warm timbre....and her falsetto is one of the best among the female singers today. And to all of those just dropping "autotune!" as an excuse, let me tell you, autotune will not sing a song and will not do your work for you, you have to be talented enough to be able to even use autotune properly to polish something. And one last thing, rather than wasting your time in the comment section arguing "autotune can do everything!!!!!", just go and watch her firework performances where she literally hits all the notes.

i am engineer and use auto tune daily. Even the best singers use auto tune. Auto tune is not a fix all solution. if you sound like shit it will still sound like shit when you auto tune it. Singing with auto tune is still a skill as it is easier to get better sounding stuff you still have to melody and timing.

There is autotune in here. If a singer has autotune on their vocals that is fine. almost EVERY song you here on the radio has autotune involved. If a singer RELIES on autotune however thats where it really shows how much of a singer they are. Well here voice does have effects on it man. In the forefront we hear some small tuning artifacts and behind that the is reverb and in some parts delay What is commonly referred to by non audio professionals as "echo" is reverb...which gives the illusion of space by either being in a room that is reverberant by nature or more likely has digital reverberation on a send. Reverb is a slough of discreet echos that are repeated hundreds of times after the initial signal is sent into it to creat a sense of depth

Sadly we live in a time where people feel its not right until its been put through melodyne. If it makes you feel better they've used pitch correction quite creatively to enhance her performance overall in this case. The thing that I feel lets this acapella down is the rushed edits that are clearly audible towards the end of the song. PS the use of editing DOES NOT make her a bad singer, its simply a product of modern recording allowing us to make people sound larger than life.
