I heard this song as a kid many times and didn't really remember the lyrics. Just a couple of words in the chorus like "you don't really wanna". Didn't even know who sang it. Recently I've realized the voice is pretty distinctive and easily found the song. And I was really surprised the song doesn't have pop-punk rhythm-guitar. That's just the way I remembered it: with a clearly audible palm-muted high-distortion guitar in verses. Katy Perry's voice would've fit it so well. The song would've been so much better like this. P. S. Very nice cover though)
