the first thing to say is that singing outdoors is not easy for a very important reason: the weather conditions, the wind, the humidity, the cold, the heat, the rain are all factors that play against the voice, the audio is never the same as in a closed environment. She has done an excellent job, and it is noticeable that she must have rehearsed this performance for a long time. I don't think it's a coincidence that she was the only American singer invited to the event. She's a great entertainer with a golden heart.

OK- to those very critical vs those who think she was amazing, allow my two cents please. I had never heard her live, so I was curious. What I heard was someone who still has some power, but maybe not as much as when she first recorded the song. How many years would it be now? That is a brutal song to begin with, needing to hit high notes with chest voice. Not many people could do it as well as she did back then. Keep in mind that in the studio, they can amplify, modify, balance to get the best sound, and this was a live concert and outdoors. You will never get the same quality. Also, with age, overuse of the voice, improper technique, acid reflux, thyroid, all these things can affect the voice. Illness, time of the month, general fatique (jet lag) as well. So, all things considered, IMHO she did pretty well. And yes, she had a fantastic back up crew. So I did not think she was either amazing or awful. She got the job done, and sometimes, that has to be good enough.

Wow...what an explanation.😃 But all being said, I couldn't do it. I think she paced herself well, by singing with those two songs at a lower pitch, back to back. It was a great performance because she made the crowd move, looked great and put so much effort into it.

A person needs to know their limits, and if taking the pitch down helps, then you do it and it doesn't need criticism, IMHO. Someone did below, and I felt it was unkind, and I am not a Katy Perry fan in the least. But neither am I a critic, except for the front of her gown because of the presence of children. @@carolcortez8716 Well..thank you very much! When I was a voice student, we were told that there might two times in your life where you feel you sang really. (I remember Beverly Sills reminiscing about one spectacular aria she had sung on television and saying she had no idea how she was able to do that.) All the rest of the time you have to fake it. I have found that to be very true. There are days when you have what is called "spin" and on other days, as if the vocal folds (cords) are petrified and it takes forever to warm up and it feels easy. So many factors that can affect the voice because it is part of a biological and living being. As in what Sills said in my parenthesis, I propose that all the right things had lined up on that particular day for her. So...sometimes "good enough" just has to be enough.

She works with him on two charities for children, and LR is a global ambassador for the Prince's Trust which has helped over a million young people around the commonwealth with grants to start their own businesses. She did not sing bad or out of tune here, just the songs were re-composed. It is different to sing a song in studio and to sing the same song on the large stage. It is a different dose of voice work, more shouting and less piano parts. Very common thing if you know performances from large music festivals. Some of her songs also have positions close to extreme for her voice, which are easier for studio than for stage. So in these positions she sang harmonic counterpart of the main melody, in order to be able to shout it more and still have some oxygen for survival. Some of the extreme tones were left for the vocalists or for the orchestra, not for her lead voice. But the expression of the song stayed preserved. You do not notice this in case of Madonna for example. Because her songs have melodies with much lesser tone scale. So Madonna can (or could) do the dance show in the tight costume and sing at the same time, and you do not hear any difference from the single edit of the song. In any way, her pitch is very good and she also does sing (shout) some very high notes. She is just not doing it at all of the places in the song, as she did in studio.

Now that's how you put a concert on!!!! The house of Windsor never disappoints. I was truly moved....and what about Prince William's tribute to his Father , the British, and Commonwealth people!!!!! He's incredibly charismatic without being full of himself and incredibly handsome. The balder he becomes the more handsome he becomes.
